Well it has taken me 6 weeks but I have finished the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings (all three). I can say that I very much more enjoyed the books over the movies.

This is a great read and if you really think about it it has a wonderful meaning and really have a better understanding and love for my believes.

The Many Coloured Land by Julian May.

Ever since I once read that book, I've been sold... Got the whole series (4 +2 + 3 books), so, it should keep me occupied for some time...

currently reading Monsieur Lecoq by émile gaboriau, founder of the detective genre. excellent book, it keeps getting more interesting. good story and a lot of historical background as well (part of the story takes place at the time of the revolution).

also available in english.

Two fiction works are in my stack. Both are from the local library, although I have found one available as an ebook for $25.

The one I'm finishing is Act of Will by A.J. Hartley; it's a sort of Shakespearean period piece and light fantasy work. It's wonderful. I've had it checked out for a month because I don't want to finish it.

The other is Oh Pure and Radiant Heart by Lydia Millet. It's a few years old but new to me. It's next on the list and is also from my local library, but is available at wowio: http://www.wowio.com/users/product.asp?BookId=4006

Non-fiction is on my 505 and the list is too long to give, but my favorite is The Kingdom of God Is Within You by Tolstoy. It is an lrf from manybooks.net IIRC.

I'm reading Terminal Freeze, a recent title, but I'm not as thrilled with it as I thought I would be. It's enjoyable, just not as enjoyable as I was led to believe.

It seems like a rehash of "The Thing," based upon a John W. Campbell story.

Thanks, Zelda, I downloaded all of them (7 more to read... )

I just started The Adamas Blueprint (had the 3 of them for a moment now, but not on the mood for that, and the thread about them made me change my mind !)
Just one chapter already, but I'm hooked for now ! Seems I'll finish it rapidly !

I almost never re-read books, but these are a couple I've been waiting for: A Fire Upon the Deep and A Deepness in the Sky, both by Vernor Vinge. About 7,000 pages total on my device, so they will keep me busy for a long long time.

If you are rereading them I have to assume you liked them... I've been considering reading some of his works for awhile now, any pro's/con's you'd care to mention?

MJ, yes, these books are mind-blowing. In my opinion (and many many others including the Hugo awards), A Fire Upon the Deep is one of the best hard scifi book ever written. The prequel A Deepness in the Sky is also a masterpiece, yet pales in comparison to the first book.

Neil Stephenson - Snow Crash. Cyberpunk classic. If you are new to cyberpunk I recommend it. It is quite easy read compared to Gibson's Neuromancer.
