However, the closest you'd come to a Christmas meal is to have an American Thanksgiving dinner.

Nah. It's glorious. I have hot turkey dinner, then turkey crepes, turkey sandwiches, turkey soup and then I still have a ton of stuff in my freezer for Xmas dinner.

Nah, a Canadian Thanksgiving dinner which comes sooner in the year and allows you more of a chance to forget the agony of overeating before Christmas arrives is a better choice.

Meh. I just stuff myself whenever the mood strikes me. Don't need any excuse like Christmas or Thanksgiving for that.

My hubster has never been introduced to the joy of open-face sandwiches. Is that an East Coast thing? His mum was (god rest her soul) a dreadful cook so the myriad list of things that he doesn't eat or like is not shocking--I've been introducing him to stuff over the decades--but damn, I miss my Open-faced hot turkey sammich, wit' gravy, stuffing, smashed spuds on the side...OHHHHH, you are making me hungry!

Day after Turkey Day, all he wants to do is simmer the carcass and make Turkey Noodle soup. Now, don't get me wrong, I love me some soup, but...it's not the same as that hot open-faced Turkey Sammich wit' Gravy!

Makes me think of the stories my mother use to tell about her challenges gettinbg my father to eat vegetables. His mother steamed (or should I say OVER steamed them) to mush.....

I am unable to eat any vegetable today (except corn on the cob) because my mother cooked all vegetables in milk - the combination of hot milk and mushy green/yellow stuff curdles my stomach to this day.

Yes, shades of my late MIL. Bless her heart, but she once served me a...well, casserole, I guess you'd call it, of white fish of some kind, with milk poured over it, with saltine crackers then crumbled over the combo and baked in the oven. I swear, I have NEVER choked something down like that. It was godawful.

See above. Can't blame you. But fresh veggies like...oh, sauteed fresh broccoli with a bit of oil, lemon and salt...yum. Wish I could show you. It's a shame, not for some health reason but just cuz they are SO damn yummy.

Or roasted! I think even the most dedicated vegetable-hater would like at least some roasted veg and nothing could be easier. Put on a sheet pan, add oil and whatever seasoning appeals, bung it into the oven until browned and crunchy. Done and delish. Roasted string beans are even better than French fries.

I hate to cook and even I don’t mind roasting veg.
