I like my two buttons. My thumb rests right beside the button and with the tiniest rotation I turn the page rather than having to lift and move over to touch the screen which changes my hold on the device. I wish there was an on/off switch for the touch screen. The opposite bezel is so narrow it makes it hard to hold on the side without inadvertent and unwanted page turns. Or make the left bezel the same width as the right so one can hold either side without unwanted page turns.

The original Scribe and the PW5 is it? I very rarely use my PW which is the latest version not counting the 2 week old option. I like that extra real estate on the Scribe and the far more infrequent page turning too much and the PW is way too tiny at 6.8". I wish the new PW had gone to an 8" screen and I'd have a good reason to get one. My Kobo Sage has the buttons so I'm always holding the wide bezel to use them.

Saw the first comparisons between colorsoft and other kaleido 3 devices. It really looks like the best kaleido, still no gallery 3 but id say at least in a direct comparison with kobo for example is pretty noticeable

Can you share where you saw it? I see there's a review of the Colorsoft on Tom's Guide and Engadget.

I think that the Colorsoft might be the first device that might be useful for comics due to the guided view. No other device (except for Android based devices of course) support something like this right now. So in this regard, it's probably better than the Kobo devices. |

Guided view is the panel by panel thing? personally i can't find it really useful. I don't like it and most pages in comics today have an irregular structure that's hard to just crop small rectangular and display them. I'd just never bother with comics till we talking about a 10" to be honest.

One thing in that review caught my attention and I think it might be of interest to people here: the reviewer used a PDF to demonstrate the color, and apparently the colors did not show up when the PDF was sideloaded; colors appeared only once the file was sent via Send To Kindle. I’m not sure if it was an issue with that specific file, but not being able to sideload color content could be a pretty big drawback.

It's likely that a PDF "sent to" a Colorsoft does not arrive as a PDF. If there is a conversion to that format available then that could be copied directly to the Colorsoft.

In fact I think this might be similar to the handling of PDFs on the Scribe; as far as I know (please someone correct me if I’m wrong) the only way to enable writing directly on a PDF is by sending it via Send To Kindle. It’s not possible to write on sideloaded PDFs. Whatever transformation Amazon applies on their side cannot be done via Calibre, either because the actual output format is unknown, or because the Kindle won’t open it.

^ amazon doesn't list current amazon file types as supported since they assume that all of them are created and delivered by amazon. PDFs "sent" to a Scribe get converted to KPF, which can only be read on a Scribe. Users can run a PDF through Kindle Create themselves to make a KPF which can be copied and presumably read on a Scribe. The KFX output calibre plugin can convert KPF to KFX. It seems to me that the situation is likely similar with the Colorsoft, but no one will know until someone starts playing with it. |

I've posted the link to the video such that it will start showing the 3 color Readers with the Kindle and the Kindle does lose a lot of detail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRHmi9bnuK0&t=570s Last edited by JSWolf; 10-30-2024 at 04:24 PM.
