The new Scribe will only be released in December and so far it doesn’t look like any reviewer has received an early unit, so no one knows yet, although I would be surprised if it were any different than the other new models.

Have the new Kindles been released in the EU? With the R2DR directive, has Amazon released any documentation?

I disagree. I quite like the shape of the Kobo Aura H2O. It would be great to bring out an 8" BW Kobo in the shape of the H2O with a better processor and a better battery.

Nope. It would be a disaster. ANY Kobo without buttons would be a disaster.

I've had a Kobo Aura H2O until the Libra 2 came out. No buttons wasn't a disaster. It was actually quite nice. With the Libra 2, I don't use the buttons. On my touch screen Sony Readers, I never used the buttons.

The only time i used the buttons was when there wasn't a touch screen.

In the EU sure. In the same time as North America and maybe the rest of the world I guess. That's how I got my PW

I'm not aware of any documentation they have to release sorry.

I'd rather have buttons than a touch screen. As many buttons as possible. The only downside to having no touch screen on my Kindle 2 was that it was a bit more cumbersome to look up words in the dictionary. But otherwise having a keyboard and no touch screen was perfect for me. (And it also made the screen much sharper since it lacked the touch layer.)

Nowadays there's even the possibility to combine buttons with wacom and use a wacom pen instead of your finger to navigate (see the Hanvon N10).

I'm all for sharp screens, contrast and efficiency of use. I don't care about thinness, form factor and some black brick aesthetics. I think the early Kindles looked better than modern ones anyway.

I do agree on having buttons, it wouldnt be a problem for me to go back to a full button no touch like kindle 4/5, especially if it means less layers, and being able to grip with some fingers on the screen would be nice... but i found out i don't miss them as much as i thought when i went from kindle 4 to pw4, what i actually missed the most was the recessed screen. If i had a request at this point, i don't really care about the two buttons solution adopted by kobo or oasis, rather than those i'd like to have back those lateral ones like kindle 4.

Hi, I've just bought a new Kindle basic to replace my PW 11th Gen. I'm 77 and have arthritis in both hands and like the lighter weight of the basic. To keep all my books as they are currently, would it be possible to simply copy the contents of the 'documents' folder from my PW to my new basic using my windows desktop PC?

PS. My new basic hasn't arrived yet

If they're sideloaded books, yes. If they're Amazon books, no.

Then I have been seeing comments that latest kindles do not have the Download and Transfer option on the amazon contents page which bothered me.
So, for now, I have canceled my trade-ins and canceled my Colorsoft order completely. I may change my mind again in the future once I see comparison videos or see one in person at Best Buy. But for now, I am passing I think.
Here is a rare hands-on with the Colorsoft, that specifically addresses how it compares to the B/W Paperwhite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXXLbjRhhF4 . It confirms what many of us suspected, that the B/W experience is slightly degraded by the extra layers, similar to other color E-INK devices. It does show side by side images, so you can see for yourself.

I loved my kindle 2 (still have it) but compared to modern ereaders that screen is not sharp

Create a collection of all of the books on your Paperwhite. Then you can download them on your new Kindle with the collection Download All option. But depending on how many books you have, it can take a few hours to download and index them before it's really ready to start reading (will be sluggish until it is done with both operations).
