Query about sideload mode

I'm toying with switching to using the sideload mode on my Clara 2E. I know that the idea is to use it without turning wi-fi on. That's fine in principle. But I expect that the device's internal clock will drift over time. Does it update automatically when the device is connected by USB cable to an internet-linked computer? Or is there some other way of persuading it to update?

The Kobo Utilities plugin for calibre has an option to set device time. However, you can use sideloaded mode with WiFi on.
