Is the KT3 method still worth a try then or will it break it by trying to flash KT3 firmware (if that is different from that of the KT2)?

YES, please do NOT flash KT3 firmware on your KT2.
Safest way to play it is to go here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...MQC26VQQMM8XSW and download FW for your exact Kindle (7th Gen). If you need a lower FW (I don’t know what exact FW number instructions ask, but better to follow it as is?) start downloading current firmware. While it is downloading, copy its link, then paste and change numbers to match with FW uber you need
