7 inches might be the screen they repurposed from Oasis, and this is another reason why we didn't see new Kindles with buttons

But that would mean it's an old screen from 2019, not the Carta 1200 or 1300.

I have waffled on this one. Initially I was very excited about a new Kindle Colorsoft and even ordered one. To get the price down I was going to trade in my Kindle Scribe and my Kindle Signature Edition (11th gen?). But, I already own a Kobo Libra Colour and use it a lot mostly because of the physical page turn buttons. I was thinking that the color might look better on the Kindle but I guess we will see. Then I have been seeing comments that latest kindles do not have the Download and Transfer option on the amazon contents page which bothered me.
So, for now, I have canceled my trade-ins and canceled my Colorsoft order completely. I may change my mind again in the future once I see comparison videos or see one in person at Best Buy. But for now, I am passing I think.

Don't trade in your PW5. If you trade in all of your older Kindles, D&T will not work any longer.

Download & Transfer via USB. It allows you to download an ebook from Amazon for transfer to a specific device over USB. A hangover from when WiFi wasn't quite so ubiquitous.

I can say that the new 5.17.1 firmware has made the PW5 page turns faster.

It's really the most beautiful e-ink i've seen tbh although it's not like i possessed a lot of ereaders. I think having the bezel in that light green color also influence the final result somehow, but i'm impressed and happy coming from a pw 4, the contrast is really amazing.

Also adter some days of use and completing a book, reading in different scenaries, when i use the light i would define it pretty more "neutral" than blueish. It's still a cold temperature of course but it's giving more a natural white than blue, compared of what i've seen in the past. Also perfect uniformity of it.

Many - myself included - were not happy with the display of the Paperwhite 4, it sometimes could be softer/hazier --- but glad to hear you're happy with the new basic. I would get one as I like to have recessed screen option to use sometimes, but I still have my paperwhite 3 going strong, and it is recessed and same size, so I can't justify an upgrade personally due to that. It seems almost all who have the new basic are very pleased with the release
