Any idea where to buy a legit version of this book in Canada? Neither Amazon.ca nor Kobo.ca has it for sale, just paperback or hardcover copies, which due to my extremely bad vision I can no longer read. Alas, my public library does not have it either. :-(

You could "travel" to Kobo US by changing your country under your account settings and then buy the US version.

The first novel in the Wayward Pines trilogy by Blake Crouch is currently available for free in the UK. Well worth picking up.

The Road to Roswell: A Novel by Connie Willis - $1.99

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BGN2XYLY

Quote:
“Willis can tell a story like no other. . . . One of her specialties is sparkling, rapid-fire dialogue; another, suspenseful plotting; and yet another, dramatic scenes so fierce that they burn like after-images in the reader’s memory.”—The Village Voice

“Willis’s fiction is one of the most intelligent delights of our genre.”—Locus

“[Willis’s] six Nebula Awards and ten Hugo Awards confirm her eminence in speculative fiction, but her versatile range and forthright wit wouldn’t be out of place in the literary mainstream.”—Publishers Weekly

Ok, I don't know if I've ever seen this before. I was curious about Moore's "Bloodsucking Fiends" so I went looking to see if the sale was still on.

It is... on Amazon.ca. Oddly, while Kobo has books two and three in the series, they don't have book one itself. I don't think I've ever seen that with ebooks before.

If you're talking about the US, not only did I link to it, but it's still on sale.

The Cosmology of the Wider World by Jeffrey Ford is $0.5 on Amazon.com
Goodreads review by Sarah Pinsker:
Quote:
This is a talking animal fable, but one intended for adults, full of sex and drugs and violence. It is tragic and sweet and lovely and funny and sad, and somehow manages to touch on themes of loneliness and creativity and normality as seen through the eyes of a minotaur and his friends. I could have read a hundred pages of Thip the flea's diagnostic declamations on the state of the minotaur's health.
Quote:
Belius has led a peaceful if not uneventful existence until now, as far as minotaurs’ lives go. He mostly keeps to his house, avoiding anyone outside of his family. Despite his human parents’ efforts to shield him from the potential hysteria of the townspeople, Belius hears about something beyond his home’s walls, even beyond the town itself—something called the Wider World. He decides to explore this strange place where the possibilities far outnumber those of the mundane real world. Here, Belius has a chance to be the minotaur he has always wanted to be. He is joined by Vashti the owl and Pezimote the tortoise, creatures that provide the philosophical guidance he will need if he is to complete his physical and metaphysical journey.

Good news if you slept on my previously-posted deal for VALIS: the entire trilogy is now available for the same price of $1.99!

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-valis-trilogy-1
https://www.amazon.com/VALIS-Trilogy.../dp/B006C3M1WY

Quote:
This e-book only edition brings together the three novels of Philip K. Dick's VALIS trilogy. VALIS What is VALIS? This question is at the heart of Philip K. Dick’s groundbreaking novel, the first book in his defining trilogy. When a beam of pink light begins giving a schizophrenic man named Horselover Fat (who just might also be known as Philip K. Dick) visions of an alternate Earth where the Roman Empire still reigns, he must decide whether he is crazy, or whether a godlike entity is showing him the true nature of the world. The Divine Invasion God is not dead, he has merely been exiled to an extraterrestrial planet. And it is on this planet that God meets Herb Asher and convinces him to help retake Earth from the demonic Belial. As the middlie novel of Dick's VALIS trilogy, The Divine Invasion plays a pivotal role in answering the questions raised by the first novel, expanding that world while exploring just how much anyone can really know -- even God himself. The Transmigration of Timothy Archer The final book in the VALIS trilogy, The Transmigration of Timothy Archer brings the author’s search for the identity and nature of God to a close. The novel follows Bishop Timothy Archer as he travels to Israel, ostensibly to examine ancient scrolls bearing the words of Christ. But, more importantly, this leads him to examine the decisions he made during his life and how they may have contributed to the suicide of his mistress and son.

The Briar Book of the Dead by A. G. Slatter (aka Angela Slatter) is $3 on Amazon.com
Quote:
Set in the same universe as the acclaimed All the Murmuring Bones and The Path of Thorns, this beautifully told Gothic fairy tale of ghosts, witches, deadly secrets and past sins.

Ellie Briar is the first non-witch to be born into her family for generations. The Briar family of witches run the town of Silverton, caring for its inhabitants with their skills and magic. In the usual scheme of things, they would be burnt for their sorcery, but the church has given them dispensation in return for their protection of the borders of the Darklands, where the much-feared Leech Lords hold sway.

Ellie is being trained as a steward, administering for the town, and warding off the insistent interest of the church. When her grandmother dies suddenly, Ellie’s cousin Audra rises to the position of Briar Witch, propelling Ellie into her new role. As she navigates fresh challenges, an unexpected new ability to see and speak to the dead leads her to uncover sinister family secrets, stories of burnings, lost grimoires and evil spells. Reeling from one revelation to the next, she seeks answers from the long dead and is forced to decide who to trust, as a devastating plot threatens to destroy everything the Briar witches have sacrificed so much to build.

Told in the award-winning author's trademark gorgeous, addictive prose, this is an intricately woven tale of a family of witches struggling against the bonds of past sins and persecution.

It's a really good novel, think it was the first one I read by Haldeman. Definitely worth grabbing at that price!

The Red Magician by Lisa Goldstein is $2 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US.

Not exactly sure it classifies as fantasy, as it is also a Holocaust novel. But the author was nominated for a John W. Campbell award for it and it also won the National Book Award. You can see the original cover below.

Quote:
Winner of the National Book Award: In the shadow of the Holocaust, a young girl discovers the power of magic

In the schoolroom of a simple European village, Kicsi spends her days dreaming of the lands beyond the mountains: Paris and New York, Arabia and Shanghai. When the local rabbi curses Kicsi’s school for teaching lessons in Hebrew, the holy tongue, the possibility of adventure seems further away than ever. But when a mysterious stranger appears telling stories of far-off lands, Kicsi feels the world within her grasp.

His name is Vörös, and he is a magician’s assistant who seems to have powers all his own. There is darkness growing at the edge of the village—a darkness far blacker than any rabbi’s curse. Vörös warns of the Nazi threat, but only Kicsi hears what he says. As evil consumes a continent, Vörös will teach Kicsi that sometimes the magician’s greatest trick is survival.

Mixing The Holocaust and fiction is often (always?) a bad idea. I can't imagine why this won an award.

I'm sure you read the book first rather than posting an uninformed and knee-jerk reaction.
