Yes, it seems this is intentional. Amazon is closing the loopholes for removing DRM.

So it’s essential to never remove or unregister your kindle if you want to be able to remove drm.

Yes, but we don't know how long D&T will be there at all. Amazon could remove it for all Kindles one day and probably will do so.

I guess we all knew it couldn't last forever, didn't we?

Even if they don't remove the D&T for older Kindle, those devices won't last forever and, eventually, the D&T will be useless.

If you want to be in the optimistic sides of things: they'll consider the devices compatible when the Kindle Colour Soft will be out.

The sum of things is that if you want to DeDRM any Kindle books, do it sooner instead of later.

It doesn't matter if the Kindle lasts forever, as long as it is registered, i.e., don't unregister a kindle.

I am still holding out on the hope that the 12th Gen devices haven't been added on the backend as an eligible device for D&T (as an oversight of sorts). It makes no sense from a standpoint of killing DeDRM to not turn off D&T for all devices in one go.

It also makes no sense that older versions of Kindle for PC would only be unable to download books published after January 3, 2023. But that's the case.

I expect they want to do those things as imperceptibly as possible, to avoid people leaving them in droves. They're probably hoping folks will just get used to the fact of an unremovable DRM if they do it gradually.

I don't think D&T is so mainstream, outside of those of us that backup our purchases.

Someone just responded on Reddit that their new kindle doesn't show up on the list of devices on their account. Hoping that's the issue.

Interesting, I just ran into this same message in a different scenario: I checked out a kindle version of a graphic novel from Libby and used the send to Kindle option. Amazon acts like I don’t have a compatible device registered when I in fact do. I’m hoping there is just some software issues going on here with the new devices. I do have a color soft on order but it isn’t listed in my devices yet
