So amathong upgrade their stock 6" etag by ONE inch, riddled with colored ads. While everyone else is moving to 8".
Speechless. |

You're years out of the loop. The PW5 was moved up to 6.8" and the 7" Oasis from 2019 was finally discontinued before this refresh. It's not a race for size, as Amazon already has the Scribe. That was the most affordable 10" device *and* the only 300dpi one at 10" for a long time. Kobo out there dropping a new color in 7" and Boox also with the Go 7 shows me that the market for 7" is thriving.

Calibre doesn't do a good job with comics. KCC makes output where every page is full screen as it should be, Calibre, at least last time I tried, doesn't so you end up with a header and footer where they shouldn't be.

Pocketbook is a little tougher, because there are quite a few customization options, but overall, the basic reading interface is not bad at all. There are really nice options for sorting one's library. And the audiobook support and TTS can be useful. With Pocketbook, you'll definitely want to learn to remove DRM, so you can shop where you want. But once you can do that, between the Pocketbook Cloud or Dropbox, getting books on the device is pretty easy. Meanwhile, enjoy your Oasis, and who knows what'll be out when it dies. New learnings are good for our brains, after all! |

Something to be aware of: there are reports that the new Paperwhite does not have the option of "download & transfer via USB". I would not be surprised if all these 2024 models are the same.

Getting rid of that would be a deal breaker for me. Except for the fact that I wouldn't touch a Kindle anyway. Without USB you'd probably end up leaving your WiFi on and giving Amazon unfettered access to your device. |
