For anyone having trouble with Goodreads plugin: Here's how it got solved it on Windows, using Firefox browser: 1. Open Firefox. 2. Go to Goodreads website: https://www.goodreads.com/ 3. Pressed Ctrl +I on your keyboard, to open More Info dialog 4. Selected Security 5. Clicked View Certificate 6. Then scroll down to Miscellaneous section, till you see Download. 7. Download these two: PEM (cert) PEM (chain) Save them to C drive, at the root, and create a folder called: cert This part is important, in order for this to work. 8. You will need to open Command Line as a Administrator. To do this: a. To Open Command Prompt as an Administrator: b. Press the Windows Start button at the bottom left. c. Type in "Command Prompt". d. Right click on Command Prompt and click "Run as administrator". e. Click Yes if the Windows 10 User Account Control prompt is displayed. f. The Command Prompt should appear. 9. Then to import the certs following these instructions, copy each of these separately, one at a time and paste it into Command Line and press enter for each: certutil –addstore -enterprise –f "Root" c:\cert\www-goodreads-com-chain.pem certutil –addstore -enterprise –f "Root" c:\cert\www-goodreads-com.pem 10. Then pressing winkey + r on your keyboard, it should open the Run box. 11. Type: certmgr.msc and click OK 12. Go to Trusted Root Certification Authorities, on the left. 13. On the right side is Certificates, double click it. 14. Scroll down and go to and double clicked the last one on the list www.goodreads.com 15. Click Ok. Close certmgr 16. Run Goodreads plugin in Calibre and this work like normal now. Last edited by Bozana; 09-30-2024 at 10:19 PM. |

![]() I'm very glad that it worked for you! I hadn't tried the curl method that Terisa suggested because I didn't even know what's a cURL. ![]() But then I did some searching and found that curl.exe is a built-in command on Windows since 2018 and it probably is a simpler way to achieve the same result! I believe that both approaches need an elevated command prompt (run cmd as admin), I should have mentioned that. |

Is there a way to not d/l the Amazon url when using the goodreads plugin to get Metadata? I'm really trying not to use Amazon for anything these days, and would really just like the link to Goodreads (even though Amazon owns them). I'm slowly getting away from Goodreads to Storygraph but I don't believe there is a Calibre plugin to d/l Storygraph metadata

Goodreads v1.8.3 released
Release Notes
https://github.com/kiwidude68/calibr...odreads-v1.8.3 @kevn57 - this should fix your issue of not wanting the Amazon.com identifier (it was a bug). You just need to uncheck the 'Get ASIN for kindle editions' option in the configuration options for this plugin. Interesting on Storygraph, had never heard of it (not one of the cool kids I guess). Will take a look at it one day if I find time, if I end up using it then I will want a plugin for it too so would end up writing one. |

Thanks Dude, much appreciated.
For me the best thing about Storygraph are the reading challenges all integrated onto the book detail pages. If you do any book bingo's as you change a book status to read you can also add it to the bingo at the same time. Stats are tracked across a bunch of categories. Your goodreads data can be exported then imported to Storygraph this includes all your reviews ect, so pretty painless getting going. I think my biggest goodreads shelf was about 5000 books and it only took Storygraph a few hours to import my data and update my profile. Also at for now Storygraph isn't owned by Amazon, then again when I joined goodreads it was owned by Amazon either. I fear that if Storygraph does get very popular Amazon will buy them too. |

Love this plugin so amazing work!
Not sure if this has been discussed already. Just noticed that the Goodread's book information page also includes the fields like "Original title", "Setting" and "Characters". Would it be possible to update the plugin to include these fields as well? Ultimate goal is to create a custom column where we can store these info, like rating and review. I believe many would appreciate the inclusion of the "Setting" metadata at least. Here is one Goodread example. |
