Thanks for the suggestion. I just updated my KFMon and started throwing PID errors. Not sure why. I decided to take your advice. I uninstalled KFMon and now launch KOReader with NickelMenu hoping to avoid the issue in the future.

If I enable the "attempt to support new database versions" (or whatever it's called in the settings), I can write metadata, but it seems to be a bit wonky - the "Im_Reading" tag self-replicates every time the metadata is updated, although this doesn't seem to persist (I'm in Calibre right now, and my collections on my device look normal).

This is the KoboTouch plugin which enables managing the device library over USB.

This is the first time I've heard of issues with the Im Reading tag.

As to the other issue; just enable the check box and you're good to go.

Totally agree with you on this one!

Recently I gave away Kobo Clara HD to a family member, they’re in high school.

They have no clue about KFMon and whatnot, I just wanted them to enjoy KOReader no matter what FW is installed (suddenly or not). So you only have to keep updating KOReader (which is also optional by the way ).

NickelMenu option to launch KOReader is great!

I'd also suggest upgrading calibre to 7.17.101 from the calibre preview site. Basically, in between the biweekly updates, if there is a bad enough bug, Kovid Goyal will post a version here. calibre does not auto-notify about these point releases.

Looks like Avenir and Georgia fonts are not being used on my Libra Color, so that old method doesn't work anymore.

Thanks But I just did use Nickel Menu and it don t work now with the new Kobo update.Perhaps I don t know the simple way to install Nickel menu + koreader ?

Thanks. I enabled unsupported firmware, and everything's been groovy so far. The "Im_Reading" tag does replicate repeatedly while my Kobo is connected, but it doesn't seem persist or cause any problems.

I'm getting database corruption with calibre on this firmware again, so I'm going back to rebooting before connecting via usb. I've had to reset the database twice this week, and the second corruption was pretty massive. I coudln't even repair by dumping the database.
