They are probably copying the paper version. I tried it and was surprised how even at 300 ppi the Garamond on eink was so much poorer than the paperback or our Brother Laser printer.

I prefer Georgia, now not available on the Kobo, so am trying Bitter. The Kindle is set to Palatino. Meh on the Kindle fonts offerings, but they work.

Carried over from my many years of reading, I like a font that makes me feel like I'm reading a paper book so therefore doesn't distract from the experience. Nothing original there, I know. |

You can use kobopatch to restore Georgia to the current firmware, if you so desire. That's one of the main reasons I'm still on 4.35.

You can also sideload it to both Kobos and Kindles, of course.

Hmm. I just checked and I still have Georgia on both my Sage and my Libra 2 (firmware 4.38.23038). It's among the default fonts, not among those I sideloaded (which are listed after the built-in fonts). I wonder why this is? Isn't Georgia supposed to be gone?

Edit: To my knowledge, I haven't enabled any patch restoring Georgia; I don't even know which patch that would be. Last edited by Sirtel; 08-30-2024 at 04:23 PM. |

Georgia is still available on my Sage, too (4.38.23038). I've never patched or sideloaded any fonts. I keep meaning to try some, I've just been lazy. I usually prefer Kakugo over the publisher default because I have an easier time reading it in bed when I'm not wearing glasses, without having to bump up the font size repeatedly. |

Georgia is on my Libra 2 but not my Clara BW. Latest firmware. No font patching and I didn't sideload it.

Did the UI font change to no longer be Georgia after you updated to 4.38? If so, perhaps Kobo won't actively remove Georgia if you already have it, but new devices no longer ship with it.

I didn't notice any changes to the UI font after I updated. Is this Georgia? (on my Sage)

Yes, the text on the left looks like it's still using Georgia.

In order to restore Georgia on newer firmware, you can use the extra files section of kobopatch.yaml. Extract the following files from an old firmware update: Code:
	usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts/georgia.ttf usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts/georgiab.ttf usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts/georgiai.ttf usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts/georgiaz.ttf Code:
	## ADDITIONAL FILES ## # Uncomment the following to add additional files to the tgz (like init scripts or hyphen dicts) # The files will be root-owned, and world readable, writable, and executable (0777) files: D:\KoboFont\georgia.ttf: usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts/georgia.ttf D:\KoboFont\georgiab.ttf: usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts/georgiab.ttf D:\KoboFont\georgiai.ttf: usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts/georgiai.ttf D:\KoboFont\georgiaz.ttf: usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts/georgiaz.ttf |

Strange, though, why was Georgia apparently removed from the Kobo Aura One (as the poster said they had to use Bitter now), but not from the Sage or the Libra 2?

Sorry, I should have noted what Kobo I'm using. I've replaced the Aura One w/a Libra Colour. (My beloved Aura One charge port stopped working) |

Ah, understood. Then it seems that Georgia has not been removed from older devices after all, it just is no longer added to newer devices.

Well, perhaps you can try adding Georgia to the Libra Colour and let us know how it goes.

For what it may be worth, I created a koboroot.tgz that included only the 4 Georgia variants from 4.29.18730 firmware download and it added Georgia as a font on my Libra Colour.
