Confirmed that it didn't get sent to device as a new, separate book? That happens when the save path changes.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. When sending an update to an existing book, it doesn't work with the send to device option, or the reading list sync. New books (books that aren't on the device yet) work fine. It's just that for some reason it looks like it doesn't overwrite existing books.

I have those settings set in RL. However, when I then add a story to the reading list that I have just updated with FFF and do a sync with RL, I still have the old book when I open it on my ereader...

You need to edit your post to remove the [img] and the link and attach the image. What's going to happen is eventually the image will expire and if anyone needs to see it, it won't be here.

You need to make sure that "Do not treat replacements as new books" is checked in whichever Kobo driver you are using. Otherwise when you go to upload the eBook, it gets treated as a new eBook and does not overwrite the existing eBook.

And you don't have "Do not treat replacements as new books" unchecked if the save path is the same.

The do not treat replacements as new books checkbox is checked in KTE.

Is the send-to-device list bound to the device? Resetting your Kobo can make Calibre think its a new device.

That should be the answer.

If you uncheck that box, the version on Kobo gets deleted and the new version gets sent. If title or other identifying information is changed, the new version will get sent but the old will not be deleted and you'll have both old and new on the device.

If that box is checked and certain things are changed, you'll get an error when trying to read the book on your Kobo.

Unchecking the box did not fix the issue

If you have it set to use the author name and you change the author name and send the book again, it's going to a different directory. Also, by using the author name , you will eventually end up with a lot of empty directories. That's why I use a single sub-directory called books.

Also, changing any metadata you use in the save template will cause the book to have a different filename and you will end up with multiple copies.

I'm confused, I'm trying to have it replace existing books, which it isn't doing, not put a new copy with a different name on the device. Also, the fanfictions are pretty small (most in my library are less than a MB) so I plan to just keep them on my ereader

Edit: This is the template I'm using:

ANYTHING that changes those values used in the template will trigger the NEW condition. This may include using a different OS or simply, a change of case

Yes, this. The older version of the book will also receive the metadata updates, so you'll end up with two copies but one is outdated.

For now I've decided to just use the save to disk functionality in calibre and that seems to work
