I've bought several external HDDs from Amazon, mostly Seagate but most recently a 16TB WD Elements. Today they have a 14TB Seagate Expansion for $180, a much lower price per TB than the other available sizes. When I tried to check out it told me it couldn't ship to my address. I assume they realized the price is a mistake but what a weaselly way to handle it?

Edit> Now the price is $205 and my shipping address has magically become acceptable.

Edit2> I kept trying and today it accepted my order at $180. Got confirmation but I suppose they could still renege, tell me they ran out or something.

14TB really is pretty cheap at that price. I'd consider buying a few of them just to strip them out of the housing to use them as internal disks. BTW, you really should look into NAS if you're relying on external disks a lot. You can build your own with some spare PC parts lying around and by installing something like Truenas Scale to it, or you can go for pre-build NAS severs. Much easier, and safer on the data, than fooling around with external disks.

NAS is not always a solution vs an external drive. For example, your active calibre library should not live on a NAS where is can live on an external drive,

It's just to store recorded video, much of which I'll probably never get around to watching, so NAS would be overkill. All the full drives I've copied the path info into Excel so I can find stuff easily enough...
