To prevent this just disable count pages from the FFF plugin in run it from your action chain and set the checkbox to wait for it to finish
Another quick tip: If your action chain contains any templates that check your word-count column, it's possible that the chain runs before Count Pages can populate the column, resulting in incorrect results. One (possible) example here.

That's working as intended for add_to_; it adds.

One answer is don't use add_to_:
Code:
[archiveofourown.org]
keep_html_attrs:href,name,class,id,colspan,rowspan,data-orighref,title,align,blockquote,div

keep_html_attrs:href,name,class,id,colspan,rowspan,data-orighref,title,blockquote,div
Personally, I'd probably just edit that one story.

I think this is like the second time someone wanting a 'remove' vs add_to_ has come up in 10 years. I'm reluctant to add that complexity without a larger set of problem stories.

Didn't have much luck with the 2024-07-08 test version on SOL. (Didn't have issue with the previous test version)

Just tried to update three stories in my library (FFF update mode: "Update EPUB if new chapters") but FFF is skipping the update.

Status: Skipped
Title: Taking Out the Trash
Author: Zak
Comment: Already contains 7 chapters. (last chapter in my library was ch. 6)
url: sol/n/34253/taking-out-the-trash-by-zak

However, if I update but overwrite always.. library books is updated correctly.

Yeah, that's probably what I'll do - I already have an editor chain for it. Hm, I might be able to use Action Chains for this - selection modifier checking the book IDs, then run the editor chain on it Or maybe this is just a case of having a hammer...

There was an issue (fixed in today's test version) with a site change that added a spurious chapter chapter.

Should be fixed now going forward.

You can use overwrite, wait until there's another new chapter, or set force_update_epub_always=true, or manually delete a chapter (or two) before trying to update.

Question: For category, is it possible to exclude a specific entry only if there's at least one other entry?

example:
originally: Mass Effect, Mass Effect Trilogy, whatever
results: Mass Effect Trilogy, whatever

originally: Mass Effect
result: Mass Effect

Maybe doing a replace on category_LIST "Mass Effect, =>" and ", Mass Effect=>". Maybe "(Mass Effect|, ){2}=>" would work?

But another example would be:
originally: Mass Effect, whatever
results: whatever

Thereby discarding Mass Effect from any crossovers? Are you sure that's what you want?

I would instead suggest normalizing "Mass Effect", "Mass Effect Trilogy" etc to one value.

Or just living with it--I've made my opinion on the futility of wrangling AO3 tags known before.

Hello, I posted a little while ago about having problems with the contents of the title page going off of the screen on my ereader. I found that it was actually dependent on whether the fic has a cover or not. If the fic has a cover, it would have proper margins.

I tried to remedy this by adding this to the personal.ini:
Code:
add_to_output_css:
 body.fff_titlepage { width: 100%%;
                      margin: auto;
                      padding: 0;}
This fixes fics without covers (or at least, makes it manageable), but screws up fics with covers.

I was wondering if there was some way to have a conditional in the personal.ini or Calibre somehow that would add the CSS if the fic didn't have a cover and not add it if so. There is the metadata value of cover_image, which would be useful to use.

This isn't too big of a deal because I could just use the Generate Cover plugin for all the fics, but I'd rather not because I do like only inserting specifically made covers rather than a template. Thank you for any help!

I can't think anyway off hand to do conditional CSS.

The CSS on titlepage being affected by the presence or absence of a cover--a separate HTML page--sounds like a reader bug to me.

Unless there's some processing step going on that combines the cover and title page, then I could see the cover_content embedded styles affecting titlepage.

I assume we've already told you about the cover_content and titlepage_start settings.

If that's the case, embedding your titlepage CSS using titlepage_start might help, or changing the embedded CSS in cover_content.

If either of those help, I'd be willing to experiment with adding the changes to defaults.ini.

Embedding the CSS to titlepage_start worked! It works properly with correct margins when there is a cover. When there isn't a cover, it stretches across the entire screen with no margins, but I prefer that over it going off the edge. Thank you for the help!

this may have been covered elsewhere, but no amount of googling is helping me find it. does anyone know how to get the "rating" column to show up on a custom title page??

i think half my problem is that i've confused the situation myself by having my entire library of works come from ao3, which has all these naming conventions that don't match up to anything else in calibre or FFF. like category = fandom, etc. etc.

context: "rating" in ao3 stands for like "mature", "explicit", "general audiences", that kind of thing. "rating" in calibre is a 1-5 star system. i didn't use this for the first several months of playing with calibre and FFF, but i've come to really enjoy using the rating star system as i go through all 1,700-something works in my library for the first time in over a decade and organize it all/cull the herd.

i have in my callibre->preferences->a custom column setup called Rated with a lookup name #rated. i have in my personal.ini->titlepage_entries: rating, and also rating_label: Rated. So everything to make the ao3 naming convention for explicit/mature/teen/general categories is set up and functioning properly on my custom title page.

that said, i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the Rating (1-5 star system) that is already built into calibre to show up on this title page. because it's already built into calibre as a standard column you dont have to make on your own i thought it would be as easy as sticking the word "ships" under titlepage_entries and having relationships pop up, but when i look in configure FFF->standard column page it isnt there. and to confuse things, the titlepage_entries: word to use to get the other, ao3 definition of a rating to populate is #rating, which is the lookup name in calibre for the star system column... lol

TLDR; how the hell do you get "Rating" (stars 1-5) to show up on a custom title page? i have no idea what to put in personal.ini to make this work and i can't find anything about it online. i'm sure i'm missing something easy, i just have no idea where else to look!!

Towards the bottom of the FFF config's personal.ini tab, there's a section for 'Calibre Columns'. Make sure you have 'Pass Calibre Columns into FanFicFare on Update/Overwrite' checkbox checked.

Now you can add calibre_std_rating to titlepage_entries. Note that it shows up as a 1-5 number. You can change that to some form of star using replace_metadata if you like.

There's a button that will show you the entry names for all of your Calibre columns.

oh my god thank you!! i did have that box checked but had never actually clicked on show calibre column names, lol. I see they're all listed in there now, including the default rating. knew i was missing something simple!

i also have this thing i can't seem to get working that is probably another simple issue: some of the labels i'm trying to make aren't labelling? they just get labelled whatever it was gonna be based on the prefix that was already placed in there.

i got "category" to be called "Fandom" on my titlepages just fine, and now rating_label = Rated while calibre_std_rating = Rating which is perfect (thank you!!). but freeformtags, chapterslashtotal, ao3categories, and bookmarktags are all not changing on my titlepages to the label i put after the : below (i hope i hid the personal.ini correctly, never done this before).

Spoiler:

## Title Page Stuff
extra_valid_entries: freeformtags, chapterslashtotal, ao3categories, comments, kudos, hits, bookmarks, collections, bookmarktags

keep_in_order_category:true
keep_in_order_characters:true
keep_in_order_genre:true
keep_in_order_ao3categories:true
keep_in_order_freeformtags:true

for example i put ao3categories_label:Genres but on my actual title pages ao3categories is called AO3 Categories, every time.

are these pink labels not actually cusotmizable labels because they're extra_valid_entires? am i missing a step somewhere? i've been haunting your plugin-defaults.ini page to try and figure things out on my own since i have no idea what i'm doing (sorry), but all i can find on this is line #42 that explicitly says "## Labels may be customized." so i must not be writing something correctly?? does this also have something to do with the calibre column names list because stuff matches up to ao3 things weirdly? any guidance is appreciated!

Using spoiler tags is good, thanks for that. Using [code] tags (# mark button in the full post editor, not shown in quick-reply box) inside the [spoiler] tags will also preserve formatting. Like so:

I suspect you put your _label lines under [defaults] in personal.ini, which has less precedence than than the same _label line under [archiveofourown.org] in defaults.ini. See the INI wiki for full precedence details.

Try putting them under [archiveofourown.org] in personal.ini instead.

Correct.

Live parsing extra_valid_entries for color highlighting is beyond my ambitions. So while the _labels form is recognized, it's highlighted magenta (instead of blue) to indicate it maybe correct, but isn't certain.
