Hear hear! I'll respect her decision, in the sense of not using, propagating or otherwise perpetuating unauthorized ebooks of her work for which she is not compensated. But I refuse to respect her for making what I believe to be a self-defeating and seriously sub-optimal decision. On that front, I'll happily tell all and sundry that her choice is making "piracy" more attractive and hurting the very copyright system that allows her to flourish. And that's downright stupid for a person whose income depends on that system.

Hey, I thought Us is a magazine! (http://www.usmagazine.com/)

But yes, I think Bush should own the Red stories.

Then, he can wear t-shirts saying "I Am Red, And I Nationalized The Banks."

Or, saying "Red" in front, "Neck" in the back....

But the second one was written during the Obama administration. Does that mean he gets to wear "Red" socks???

Sure, why not. But the way the economy is going, if he can afford the socks....

I think she used to be poor so now despite the fact she has more money than she could ever spend, she is overly greedy and just wants more and more. Probably stems from fear of being poor again, obsessively collecting money and making decisions which are often against the wishes of her fans (closing fan websites) so she can make more money.

Hitting the jackpot with a first novel probably didn't help either. I doubt whether she's ever needed to actually cultivate a fanbase.

Can't say that I wouldn't do the same if I had been in that situation. However, she does donate quite a bit, and I know from experience (not mine, someone elses) she does better - she donates her time.

Yeah, she might pose with nuns at soup-kitchens, but J.K. Rowling did manage to insult the mighty Hindu Goddes Durga, and is therefore headed straight for Hindu Hell

Sonist, what is it you have against JK Rowling? Is this some sort of personal vendetta?

I hope not. Never pick rich people for a personal vendetta. They can hire personal body guards, political operatives, snipers, ninja assassins, a team of alien mind readers and sometimes Godzilla as long as he's not touring.

I usually choose something much more defenseless for a vendetta, like a can of soup. I break out the can opener and it's no more Mr. Niceguy.

Yes, it goes way back, when I was sitting in a coffee shop, scribbling ideas for my next porn movie on paper napkins. One of the ideas was about a young wizard named Parry Hotter.

Well, this destitute-looking woman walked in, and since all the tables were taken, asked if she can sit next to me. I even bought her a cup of coffee, because she didn't have enough change - her dole check had been delayed.

Long story short, I went to the bathroom, and when I came back, she was gone, along with all my paper napkins. The, rest, as you know, is history.

-----------------------------

P.S. I actually like J.K. Rowling She writes well, and the HP books (even if they owe significant debt to LOTR), will likely remain one of the best series of its kind for the next few decades, at least.

But I also find her preoccupation with copyright enforcement crossing the line of "normal" at times, and her objections to e-books (presumably stemming form IP concerns), rub me the wrong way.

And since she is perhaps the most visible opponent of e-books, I see her as a large, clear target, for some occasional fun, as well as a convenient example of a "Death Eater" in the world of e-bookdom.
