The arch repository for Calibre is always up-to-date. It really depends on your flavor of Linux.

I believe our @eschwartz is active at Arch, but life happens and things can get delayed (or missed)

By the way, is this the right thread to talk about newer database versions?

I’ll take a look into the SQLite database from the 5.0.x firmware and I don’t actually know where I could add the new database version.

The database version is in the kobo driver in calibre code (calibre.devices.kobo.driver class attribute "supported_dbversion"), currently on line 1401 and set to 175. Any changes required to support a new db version also go in the driver.

This assumes changes to kobo utilities aren't required. If they are then they must be added in a way that preserves existing behavior for people using older firmware.

Of course, I mean I’ll probably need help anyway. The first thing I’m going to do is to compare the SQLite db of my Libra 2 to the Tolino Shine Color and if there are significant differences. After that, we can talk what I’d need to do anyway.

I'm glad to help if I can, for example with the structure of the driver code and review of proposed changes. For driver changes it would probably be best to open a new thread in the "Development" forum as they will probably get technical very quickly. Perhaps the same for Kobo Utilities ...

But you won't know it's OK until you try it and there is always a chance it's not OK.

Could we just keep an older Kobo Utilities for those on an older calibre and just update it for the the current stuff?

Sure, if you are willing to handle all the problem reports or change the plugin distribution system to handle multiple versions of a plugin.

Hi, the kobo touch extended driver is not working anymore, I can't open the configuration window (TypeError: QCheckBox.setCheckState(): argument 1 has unexpected type 'bool') and it seems that if I load new books on my kobo they are now not hyphenated. I previously unchecked the hypenation option from the configuration window of the driver, but now I can't go back since it doensn't open anymore. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but to no avail. What can I do?

Make sure you are up to date on both Calibre and the Kobo plugins.
Plugins sometimes need to keep up with major Calibre changes.

FWIW it works on W10 Calibre 7.12

Hi, thanks for the reply. Both Calibre and plugins are up to date unfortunately. I should add that the main kobo driver works just fine, it's only the extended one that won't let me open the configuration window to restore the hyphenation on new ebooks.

That sounds like it coukd be a corrupted configuration file for the plugin.

Why not run calibre in debug mode and post the log that it produces.

Also, this does belong more to the "[Device Plugin] Kobo Touch Extended Driver" thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=211135

You are in the correct place.

I suspect one of the USER Preferences (in the Calibre configuration folder) for Kobo is damaged.
These are NOT replaced/removed during a remove plugin or even a Calibre uninstall (allows a downgrade), so a reinstall of the plugin will not fix.

If you do delete the device_drivers_KOBOTOUCHEXTENDED.py.json, you will need to redo the settings for the Kobo.
Got Backup of the Config folder? Simply replace (ONLY) the 3 KOBO device files (Calibre NOT running)
