So it's really for real, Bookeen made an ePub version? I really hope that it will support Mobi and ePub for the public firmware... (The book series I read actually is only available in mobi and I doubt that it will be available in an other format one day...)
The Kindle does not support DRMed Mobipocket. Just as the beBook does not support DRMed ePub. It's going to make choices harder for the average person out there who does not and.or cannot strip DRM.

How many Cybook/Bebook & co?

(and the majority of mobi books are available in the Kindle store if I'm correct)

They are one of the biggest sellers in the pBook-market in europe and now they loose the young but even though growing eBook-market here just because ePub is on it's way to the defacto ebook standard here. I can't imagine that Amazon doesn't care about one of their biggest markets. More likely Amazon can't offer the kindle2 in europe because the world-wide E-INK production capacity doesn't allow much more kindles to be produced and because they need contracts with the european authors and publishers first to offer enough ebooks here. Most of our authors and especially our publishers are not the best friends of amazon yet.

I think the problem for amazon in Europe is more due to your last argument and surely that I don't think that any Mobile Operator will sign a contract like in the US. When I see french mobile operator and how they try to make money from everything, they will never allow something like Amazon to use their network "for free"

Maybe I'm wrong... We will see...

On the other hand amazon charges our publishers up to 60% of the price of a pBook when it's sold on amazon. Why should our publishers take contracts with amazon in account if they are able to sell the (e)books with their own plattforms and networks? But you are right, we will see - hopefully soon.
Nevertheless the E-INK production capacity is very low compared to those of other display technologies. It's known that amazon could have sold more Kindle1 in the US if they had got more displays.

I'm not expert, but if I understand correctly, the dictionary support is made with the Java Mobi SDK, so if mobi is here, the dictionary is here too ^^

So bookeen, PLEASE give us ePub+Mobi version

I don't know about prc support in France - which is quite ironic since Mobipocket was/is a French company -, but Mobi prc has a very strong following in Germany. epub is much too young, and Palm pdb never could break into German eBook market.

For all mobile pre-E-Ink devices prc was a de facto German standard if you didn't want to use pdf.

It would be a major flaw in Amazon's market policy if the would fall for the dumbest mistake of them all - not caring about the different settings and rules for a different market.
If Amazon won't care for the European market, some other company gladly will. Amazon doesn't have such a huge market share at least in Germany (it is strong for sure), so their Kindle - should it ever come to Europe - will be rather late, will have to face quite some vivid competition and simply won't be such a granted success (still don't know if I call those 250.000 US-sales a success or not ...) as in the US.

Buying Stanza was a clever move. About the rest I'm not so sure. But then, I don't care. The Kindle doesn't attract me, neither does Amazon's proprietary policy or their treatment of customers lately.

30 April is the last day of the month. Could it be possible that the retailer is just guessing the date ("d'ici a Avril", say's Bookeen)?

Will Bookeen deliver the promisse in the very last day of the month?!

I think so too: It will solve Amazon's problem of not being able to produce/buy enough Kindles to sell, if they can sell apps for existing devices to read Kindle books. Stanza was already working on that, and Amazon has the resources to speed up the process, hence, the buy.

Of course, I'd still rather have an app that reads ePub on all devices (like my iPaq), but until I get it, I can always convert ePub to Mobi.

For what it is worth there is nothing on Bookeen's home page about dropping Mobipocket or adding epub, nor of any new developments or new vendors.

Their advertising material for the Cybook still has mobipocket as the format used.
