Pictures of a color eInk screen are useless unless we know what the light level is be it off or some value. We also need to know if the orange light is on and what value if it is. Otherwise the photo of video is useless.

We need (IMHO) more videos/photos of these color Kobos with no light in different situations compared to the BW versions.

In Elementary school they told us lies about colours, even in secondary school art. Secondary school physics was more accurate.

But as I wrote, the post was for the general public.

And the colourisation is just a thin printed pattern, a layer, of translucent dots aligned with the pixels.

I think you are too in the weeds to understand what he means by total dark mode.

Currently, on Kobo, dark mode give you inverted colors on a book page. But if you pull up settings, a dictionary entry, go to the Home screen, etc, the black and white are not inverted.

On Kindle, all screens, all menus, the black and white are reversed. BUT images and book covers are not.

NickelMenu can make available an Invert option which inverts the colors everywhere, including the menus and screens.

Invert screen was the original and unoffical mode which does invert everything including images. Dark mode inverts text but leaves images in normal mode while reading.

Yes, I was inaccurate and used dark mode when I meant inverted.
However though text only CRTs originally used it, "dark mode" was brought back to save power on OLED. It doesn't save power at all on LCD and eink, and in dark/inverted mode the brightness (thus power) may need to be higher.

Reducing the brightness on LCD and eink is better. It's rare that the fonts are optimal for white text on black background. CRT based systems went to "white" paper and Schools went from blackboards to whiteboards as soon as it was feasible.

Books are black text on white paper. Try turning down the brightness.

The consensus I'm seeing is (a) if you don't mind using the light and turning it up a bit more than before, you will like it, and (b) if you insist on keeping the light off, you will be disappointed.
