I'm using Kindle for Android app version 4.16.0.75 as recommended in the first post of this thread, and could de-DRM my Kindle First Reads January book. I haven't tried it on a purchased book for a couple of months now, but I assume that the First Reads books published this month use the same DRM?

To report an issue, go to the github at https://github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools/issues. Detailed help with DeDRM tools is not supported on MobileRead. |

@pdurrant - Since I see it coming up every now and then in Calibre forum, perhaps add the first post to mention 'use DeDRM_plugin.zip instead of the main zip file.' At least a bit more visibility.

Yes, but caused by a UI design error in Calibre. If Calibre had used a non-zip file extension for plugins, these errors would almost never occur. it would also stop the errors when the user unzips the actual plugin, and then gets confused.

It's not the fault of calibre. It's user error and will always be user error.

The problem wouldn't come up if people got in the habit of downloading the tar.gz from github instead of the zip.

One thing that would simplify this for new users would be to eliminate the single zip file and replace it with the five files that it contains as individual downloads. That would allow the calibre plugins to be downloaded in the same form as is needed for installation with no unzipping involved. Of course doing that might confuse those who have gotten used to the current unzip the zip and extract the zip from it procedure. I don't have much hope of anything actually changing. It appears that NoDRM has lost interest in the project as Alf and Harper both did. The 10.1.0 release has been pending for more than half a year. |
