Just finished "The Ark" by Boyd Morrison which was fantastic! It's free (PDF, Mobi, and ePub) from..

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44129

I'm now reading "Topper" by Thorne Smith from..

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/ebooks.php

I love the era and the antics of the characters that cause me to picture what is happening as I laugh out loud.

When I went to continue some of my ebooks yesterday, my poor Cybook was out of battery, so I had to pick a paperbook instead.

I started a book from a French author in SciFi I have just purchased, and I finished it (7 hours reading, almost a sleepless night !)
So it was "Le Destitué", from P-J Hérault.

His SciFi is what we call Space Opera, with simple words, action, "heroes" (no supermen here) that are "simple" guys put into dangerous situations and that are successful of course !

Sorry guys, as far as I know, he's not translated !

We should start a thread for people who read in English, but not as their first language.

*******************

I am reading: Blood Song by John Meany - I am hooked. Its a techno-fantasy, not Earth. All kinds of weirdness, unpredictable, a unique world, has some humor. I love it. (Quite easy English)

*******************
And I agree, a book has to get you hooked right-away. If after 50-100 pages I do not like either the story, the characters the writing or the world then it is NOT worth it. At least one of these has to be captivating. Some make it, some don't.

I'm about to start reading Stephen King's "The Stand" for the 4th time.

Seems rather appropriate, doesn't it?

Just finished 'Almuric' by Robert E. Howard - thoroughly enjoyable pulp nonsense .

Crutledge for providing the Mobi version I read - great job!

Now reading 'Matter' by Iain M. Banks (pbook) - fantastic so far. Banks is back on form.

Just finished Still Alice about EOAD (and am busy testing myself every 5 minutes now for cognitive disfunction). Now reading something more mindless and much less scary - Hideaway by Dean Koontz (of course I still can't remember if I have already read this one...always the way with DK books for me...so that just brings me full circle back to Still Alice).

I've been listening to audio books of Spike Milligan reading his war memoirs, Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall.

- Pride and Prejudice on my Sony reader
- Killing the Shadows by Val McDermid on my Smart Phone
- The Coldest Winter by David Halberstam in my car as an audiobook

The Coldest Winter is a very good book about the Korean War. I highly recommend it.

I normally have 3 stories going at the same time!

Hah, Think I will too. Probably about the 4th time for me too.

When you first read it, did you start sniffling and coughing? Every friend of mine that read it (as well me me) had psychosomatic flu symptoms for a day or two.

Just converted Star Trek: Vanguard: Open Secrets by Dayton Ward to ePub. And I'm ready to give it a read.

I just finished The Bible Unearthed: Archaeology's New Vision of Ancient Israel and the Origin of Its Sacred Texts. Really well-written, nicely flowing and easy to read. If you like archeology, and particularly Biblical archeology and history, it's a must.

Currently re-reading Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome. Pleasant and often funny read.
