I enjoy cooking and reading about historical recipes and cooking techniques and even trying some of them. Some of those recipes are enough to have you wondering how any one survived eating them.

One example would be The Whole Duty of a Woman which is downloadable. The text is pretty grotty but since the original dates from 1707, that's not all that surprising.

Not quite, between December 1653 to May 1659 the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland was a republic ruled by the Lord Protector (Oliver and Richard Cromwell).

And in 1381 Wat Tyler wouldn't have called it unified

From wiki "Unification of Angles, Saxons and Danes: 12 July 927"

2023 - 927 = ~1096 years
1659 - 1653 = ~6 years
so ~1090 years which is greater then 1000, so over 1000 years. Maybe not continuous, but over 1000. *

* Please note that I am very ignorant of European history.**
** I am not interested in a history lesson.

I didn't actually; I contemplated it for a nanosecond or so, but I think in context, it would be hard to mix those two/three up. I mean, mince (ground beef); mince pie (apple and whatever) and then a mincing gait? IDK, maybe it's just me.

I remember...I forget which thread, etc. but it came up around "pies." In the UK of course, you guys have all those lovely meat pies, which aren't all that commonplace here, not as lunch/hand food. Someone went on about mince pies and I sorta got confused...anyway.

That's why I ask! I mean, if someone says "do this and that, cook it and serve with whipped or clotted cream," I'm pretty sure I know it's not ground beef-mince. But...you know.

During these two episodes the country was still a single state and did not splinter into several countries.

It also remained a kingdom even if the king was in exile during the Commonwealth.

Wat Tyler just led an unsuccessful rebellion. There have also been other rebellions/civil wars but the population still saw themselves as English belonging to a single country and were just fight fighting over who ruled.

Certainly when Aussie floaters are mentioned. I mean pie in pea soup?

And yet each on their own is no problem.

I do hope the bins in the UK have been secured what with the multiple storms and high winds.

Cat poo should be picked up with a biodegradable poo bag. We have dog poo waste bins and we use biodegradable poo bags. Usually use two bags a day.

In the US it's ground beef and potatoes.
