Why not? Existing e-readers shaped like smartphones in the 5"-6" range do have volume buttons on the sides - and the Hisense devices and Onyx Boox Palma have an additional programmable function/e-ink button. The volume buttons are used as page turn buttons. And since they don't really protrude that much and don't require extra space, I don't see why one wouldn't include them.

I also don't really get why modern 6" readers lack page turn buttons. My Kindle 2 had them on each side of the bezel, as did other early 6" Kindle models.

I just won't buy anything that doesn't have buttons.

I don't think they are for ereaders. They are aiming at retail displays.
Kaleido is a niche and abysmal for novels. It's only good for comics and needs the front light on. Also Kaleido true resolution is half a regular mono panel resolution, fine for comics and poor for novels.

Eink itself is a niche with over half of ebooks read on phone apps.
Gallery colour is a different principle and only for retail display due to 1.5 second refresh!
Three supermarket chains here recently changed to eink 'two colour price tags' and one has larger panels.
We need better batteries with more power and faster processors. If this makes the devices heavier, so be it. It needs to be done or the lighter devices would be useless.

I would like a new Libra 2E that has a more powerful battery and faster processor. I don't want the battery life to be any worse for putting in a faster processor.

Why? I understand if I'm going out for a long time, not in other situation. A lighter device, that I can carry on easily is more important for me, than a battery that allows me to charge it every two months instead of every two weeks. So no, I don't need better batteries.

If a faster processor is put in, it could cause the battery to be used more. If that's the case, then we need a more powerful battery to count act more battery usage. Also, the Sage and Elipsa both have pathetic batteries and really need more powerful batteries. Sure you can charge them at home, but that will shorten the life of already underpowered batteries.

Well, let's go to the beginning. 6" owner here going on 5" if something appears. Faster processor? Not needed: not manga, not pdf... kepub advances for me. And about shortening life.... I think none of my devices has reached the end of their life before I change them. So, I maintain my opinion: lighter is better than bigger battery/faster processor.

I liked the 6" readers I started with because they were light, lasted ages on a charge and were close to real book size.

I then moved up to 8" and realised Manga was now an option too, the drawback being the screen real estate isn't quite big enough.

Now, I'm seriously considering a small ebook reader for novels and taking out with me, and something in the 10" range for Manga and pdf reading. Extravagant spending, probably. But, reading is a huge part of my life, so worth the money.

That, I can understand. And, in that case, faster processor. Aditionally, it's not a device for going around with it (usually), so weight is not a big concern. But for a smaller device, weight is a big point.

Exactly what I was thinking, yes. I don't really mind spending the money on something I will use a lot and take so much pleasure from. Even if it means buying two readers

I have my Kobo Clara for books and a Pixel Slate with a 12.3" screen for American and British comics. But most manga is reprinted in tankōbon about the same size as a Libra 2 screen. Will a larger tablet benefit manga much?

I was under the impression that tankōbon was 12.8 cm × 18.2 cm with a 22.2 cm (8.75") diagonal. The Sage is a 3:4 aspect with a 20.32 cm diagonal while tankōbon is 3:4.27 meaning that using the 1920 vertical pixels of the Sage would result in using only 1348 of the 1440 horizontal pixels. That would leave 46 pixels or leaving a ~0.4 cm margin on each vertical side. This is assuming that we are using Japanese B6 for the tankōbon, I've also seen ISO A5 paper used which is slightly larger ( 14.8 cm × 21.0 cm ) with a 25.6 cm diagonal (3:4.26 aspect ratio) which gives pretty much the same result on a Sage screen.

This quick and dirty number juggling did not allow for trimming the margins to increase the size of the images. My daughter's manga ebooks do not seem to do so.

Manga has never looked brilliant on the Forma when I have tried reading it because the screen size doesn't match the page format. As there's no reader with a screen size between 8" and 10" available (at least in the UK) I'm not exactly spoilt for choice.

I just had a quick look with a ruler and the forma screen diagonal is 20cm (a touch under 8"). My 10" tablet screen has a diagonal measurement of around 25.5cm (a touch under 10"). My paper copy of Death Note is 23cm (just over 9") across the diagonal. So a 9" screen size is probably the minimum for Manga to display the correct size. Very rough measurements, sorry

The 9.7″ eink models are all 150 dpi, so same number of pixels as hypothetical 4.85″ 300 dpi model.

I haven't seen anything this size in the UK. Is that the Pocketbook?

The other issue with displaying Manga is that although the page may reduce to fit the screen, it also means the text often becomes too small to read comfortably and the older I get, the more this is a 'thing'
