I wouldn't say they don't faze me. I've just not developed the hatred for them that many seem to have. If it's an utter invasion/pollution (like trying to watch Second Hand Lions on a broadcast channel), then I'm probably going going to watch something else. But it's true: the existence of commercials alone is not enough to make my blood boil. Prime Video's going to have to be hitting me with some fairly invasive and lengthy stuff for it to trip me up (let alone cause me to cough up another $3 a month to remove them).

I like Reacher too.

The wife and daughter were watching a show on Christmas Day that had one fewer commercials than the version available from broadcast TV.

The daughter is rethinking her streaming channel subscriptions as all three of the services she subscribes to are now going to commercials and reducing the amount of content available.

I have premium YouTube with no ads, about $12 a month (can't remember right now). I don't have their expensive subscription.

I received the email about Prime video ads, but I thought they were already doing promos at the beginning of movies. I hope it's not interrupting shows in the middle. I have Prime membership regardless for covering shipping without having to order a minimum amount of things. I watch a little of Prime, but my go-to streaming over the past year has been YouTube (livestreams), Netflix, Max and PBS Passport. I have Britbox and Acorn. I might cancel one of them soon, but currently there are some Britbox shows I want to catch up on. I think there is a new Vera and Shetland started about a month ago. I still have cable. I know I'm wasting some money.

Hell, ownedby! It's triple-dips, with exceedingly few exceptions (Reacher, etc.) , most of what's played is movies that are now in "cable" distribution; rerun TV shows; TV shows that didn't cut it on the networks so they've been cycled to Hulu and the like. That's 1. Then they're charging us for the privilege of watching--that's 2. And 3 is, they're gonna play commercials, TOO?

What, they got so accustomed to making a crapton of money, using airwaves and bandwidth that they got for FREE--leading to egregious salaries for stars, producers and the like--that they can't cut it without commercial revenue? Then cut BACK. i'm sorry, but you can sit there and ogle all you wish about lifestyles of the b*tch and famous, but they are not worth $1M/episode. They're just not. I can't think of anybody in any show that I think is worth that. Back in the early days of Hollyweird and when NY was big in telly land, "stars" like those in Peter Gunn, Perry Mason, etc. weren't making that kind of money, nor producers, etc and they still shouldn't be.

For crying out loud, if anybody deserves the money its' the damn writers. NOT those playing dress-up. UGH.

And if they all "gotta have" all that money then they can PAY for the damned bandwidth that we, the people (of the USA, around this neck of the woods) own, for crying out loud and NOT get it for FREE.

What's really annoying for me is that almost everything I watch is on add-on channels PBS Britbox Acorn AMC Mhz Topic. So the ads will just pay for more Prime content that's totally worthless to me.

Yes, I have two or three of those, I believe. honestly, I hate to admit it, but it would take me a day or two to figure out WHERE I bought this channel or that (e.g., Britbox versus Acorn or Paramount or MGM or or or...; could be via DirecTV or through Amazon or through Bob's big Soapbox o'stuff.)

We watched Rebel Moon last night. My sister enjoyed it, I didn't, it annoyed me.

First of all I had the feeling I was missing information about the world, the war, etc. Then It was obvious that the writers just picked and mixed things from other sci-fi and fantasy franchises and mashed it all together. I also found the editing choppy.

What annoyed me most was the ending, where there was a big continuity error, which had me yelling at the tv.

Spoiler:

The big baddy get most, if not all, teeth knocked out by the main character. A couple of minutes later he is found with all this pearly whites.

I'm glad I that you posted and then I read this. We'd been debating--not very warmly, to be honest--as there is so little to watch on (you know, if you love comedies or reality tv or kids' stuff, there's a lot but...), but that would have made me bonkers.

Anybody else notice that for the first time that I recall, there was no Death in Paradise Xmas Special, or did I miss it somehow?

There were both Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise Christmas specials on the BBC in UK but don’t know if they made it over to Phoenix. Hope you do get to see them sometime.
