I just finished my year with War and Peace. I'm a week ahead, but I wanted a break before tackling Richardson's Clarissa next year.

Currently reading Germany: A Nation In Its Time by Helmut Walser Smith. I barely even heard of the 30 Years War in my high school history classes, so the chapters on it in this book have been very moving. Also not unhappy to be reading it now, when I can find Tränen des Vaterlandes on Youtube to listen along as I read.

I've just started Cybernetic Revolutionaries: Technology and Politics in Allende's Chile by Eden Medina, and the chapter explaining what cybernetics is and the way it was applied in the 50s and 60s in the US made me think of Asimov's "psychohistory" - the same touching faith in the ability of data analysis to control behaviour. Reading the great Alberto Moravia (a favorite). This one: The Lie. PDF only, unfortunately. I'm torturing myself by reading it on my Kobo Libra 2. |

I feel your pain. I'm currently reading 3 PDFs. I did try them on my Sage, but have given up and gone back to my 34 inch desktop monitor instead.

I’m still reading Anna Karenin. Going slow. I’m enjoying it but picking up a large involving book like this over the holidays was a mistake. Even not working right now, I’m super busy with family friends etc, and have very little time for reading. I’m actually looking forward to taking the car in for service and having to wait 2-3 hours for the work to be done. LOL. Up next, Pam Jenoff’s Code Name Blue Saphire. I’ve read some of her WW2 historical fiction books and like them. Picked this one up as a deal of the day on Amazon. |

Next up: A random pick, The Cosmic Perspective by Brian Stableford. A collection of his short fiction that I bought way back in May 2011! | |

Two-thirds through Out of Sri Lanka an anthology of poems, most translated from Sinhala or Tamil. Brutal, troubling, powerful and moving. I'll probably need to read 10 PGWs after this

Picked up one of the books in Craig Johnsons Longmire series. Another Man's Moccasins. My first from the author, I'll go back and read the first in the series once I finish this one. |

Last night I started what will be my first 2024 read, A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik, the first book in the Scholomance trilogy. I had skipped over it without much notice until a week or so ago when I saw a positive review of the book from someone I follow and respect on GR. The reviewer compared the main character to Murderbot, and that sold me. I instantly put a hold in at my library, and it came in two days ago. |

After finishing the brutal Out of Sri Lanka, Tina Fey's Bossypants is proving to be a great choice of palate cleanser
