Kate Sedley's The Christmas Wassail, which is the most recent in her Roger the Chapman series (even though published in 2013), is on sale in the US and UK right now. And it's discountable at Kobo. I've read most of the books in this series, and enjoyed them.

Kindle US ($2.99): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CYLGHM8
Kindle UK (£1.99): https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CYLGHM8
Kobo US: ($3.99, but discountable): https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/christmas-wassail
Kobo UK: (£1.99, also discountable): https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/christmas-wassail

Spoiler:
Quote:
Christmas, 1483: Roger the Chapman is looking forward to twelve days of peace and celebration with his wife and children in Bristol. The family is particularly excited by the arrival of a troupe of mummers, who will perform their plays in the outer ward of the castle throughout the festival. But the gruesome murders of two of the town’s most prominent and venerable citizens, both veterans of the French wars, scupper Roger’s hopes as he is gradually drawn into the hunt for the killer.

Once again, Roger finds himself in grave danger, but it is someone else who pays the price of his inability to keep his nose out of matters that do not concern him . . .

Joseph Flynn started out traditionally published and now publishes through his own Stray Dog Press. I've read most or all of his Jim McGill, Ron Ketchum and John Tall Wolf series and liked all that I read, conventionally pubbed or through his own press.

Right now, Nailed, which is the first in the Ron Ketchum series, is free at Kindle US and UK, and three other non-series titles are also free right now. I haven't read any of these non-series ones, and didn't much like the non-series ones of his that I read, although more a matter of taste than anything else. But, since I was posting the one, I figured I'd post the other three - ignore them if you choose...

After losing her family and home in the Galveston Hurricane of 1900, Rachel Blackwood rebuilt her house a hundred miles inland and later died there, still wrapped in her grief.

In present-day Texas, Claire, the grandniece of Rachel’s caretaker, has inherited the house and wants to turn it into a bed-and-breakfast. But she is concerned that it’s haunted, so she calls in her friend Ruby—who has the gift of extrasensory perception—to check it out.

While Ruby is ghost hunting, China Bayles walks into a storm of trouble in nearby Pecan Springs. A half hour before she is to make her nightly deposit, the Pecan Springs bank is robbed and a teller is shot and killed.

Before she can discover the identity of the killers, China follows Ruby to the Blackwood house to discuss urgent business. As she is drawn into the mystery of the haunted house, China opens the door on some very real danger…

Confessions by Kanae Minato is $3 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US.

Read it earlier this year and... I frickin' loved this book. Wasn't too sure about the writing style at first, but stick with it.

Quote:
Her pupils murdered her daughter. Now she will have her revenge.

After calling off her engagement in the wake of a tragic revelation, Yuko Moriguchi had nothing to live for except her only child, four-year-old child, Manami. Now, following an accident on the grounds of the middle school where she teaches, Yuko has given up and tendered her resignation.

But first she has one last lecture to deliver. She tells a story that upends everything her students ever thought they knew about two of their peers, and sets in motion a diabolical plot for revenge.

Narrated in alternating voices, with twists you'll never see coming, Confessions probes the limits of punishment, despair, and tragic love, culminating in a harrowing confrontation between teacher and student that will place the occupants of an entire school in danger. You'll never look at a classroom the same way again.

The Jackal's Head is a non-series title by Elizabeth Peters. It's $1.99 at Kindle US right now.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FCKRHY

Spoiler:
Quote:
A woman returns to Egypt to clear her archaeologist father’s name in this mystery by the New York Times–bestselling author of the Amelia Peabody series.

Althea Tomlinson’s ostensible reason for returning to Egypt is to chaperone a spoiled teenager through this fabulous desert land. The truth is more complex—and dangerous. Ten years ago, something that happened here brought about her archaeologist father’s ruin and subsequent death. . . . and Althea intends to clear his disgraced name and finally lay a dark past to rest.

But there are some mysteries best left buried in the shifting sands, and a devoted daughter’s search for answers is stirring up forgotten memories almost too painful to endure, which propel her onward among ancient tombs, legendary treasures, miraculous discoveries . . . and ever closer to her own threatened doom.
