Well, adverts. I and I guess many, many other people use Adblock, uBlock and whatnot to block every last ad out there. We can't stand them. We hate them with a real violence. We don't want to see even one tiny ad anywhere. No way. Nope. So yeah, we never see them. On my Android phone, I use the Opera browser with its built-in adblock, so no ads there either.

But otherwise... my condolences. I hope it'll get better for you.

In any bespoke non-retail business, I suspect 90% of new business comes from one-to-one word-of-mouth recommendations.

I probably should have clarified that we don't do Adsense stuff, on other websites and all that. I found that those ads were worthless and it's not like you can ever tell that John Doe would-be author, at the cusp of delivering his manuscript, is somehow going to be looking at this or that site. It's ridiculous. We only use paid search--so you wouldn't see an ad for us, say...oh, out shopping for a writer's journal, let's say. You have to be actively searching for our services or related services, on Google, et al, to ever see one of our ads. I try hard not to be in people's faces all the time and hell, that might (Probably?) be an oversight or stupidity on my part.

We get a lot of that, as we do, exactly, do both custom and bespoke, but it's oddly more complicated than that. There are scads, and I mean, SCADS of people that just go out, find a company (a scam company or bad vanity publisher, you understand) with "KDP" or "Kindle" or "Amazon" or the like in the business name or URL/website name, and they're taken in. For about 3-4x what WE would charge to do the same thing, honorably and properly, too, mind you. It's...infuriating.

They're so afraid of being scammed that they walk right INTO being scammed.

Sigh. I realize that doesn't have a lot to do with me and my crew directly, really, but...ugh. in some ways, I wish I'd known, way back, what I know now. I'm not 100% sure that I would do this or that massively differently, but I suspect I would.

I never delete emails. You never know when you might need to see an old one for one reason or another (at least, it happens frequently to me). For this reason I don't use a desktop email client, but only the online version - I have no space for all that stuff locally (my inbox is over 70 GB by now). I download my emails regularly in a zipped file and backup them on external drives, just in case. But nothing ever gets deleted.

Hold my beer. I've got 79,682 in my inbox. They're all read, though. Not that I've actually read them all (most, yes, but not all), but I mark everything as read just on principle.

I don't bother to sort my email in any way. Search usually gets me the result I want.
