@arooni
Where did you get Kindle Scribe FW 5.16.2.1 ? As far as I know, there is no such version, but there is 5.16.2.0.1 |

@arooni
Anything above 5.16.2.0.1 does not support KOReader and stuff, so do not upgrade to those if want to keep using KOReader and JB. |

I meant to say 5.16.2.0.1
Should I upgrade to this os Version before or after doing the jailbreak ? Edit. Sorry mergen. Seems like you spelled it out earlier. Ps: do you hang out on the mobile read discord ? Would love to be able to ping you there if I run into issues. If so please pm me your username there. Last edited by arooni; 12-16-2023 at 04:56 PM. |

Ok at the starbucks.
Curious about this step as summarized by Mergen. "6) Do not leave demo yet, install both Marek's and NiLuJe's hotfixes first." Where do I get these? Last edited by arooni; 12-16-2023 at 05:29 PM. |

Oh no, please don’t ping me on anything live
![]() It’s enough to be on forum lol. Marek’s hotfix is in the OP archive. NiLuJe’s hotfix is in the Snapshots by NiLuJe thread (sticky thread in Kindle Developer Corner). It is called JB Hotfix |

I think the jailbreak was successful; I see jailbreak on boot.
I got marek's hotfix installed. I don't have niLuJe's hotfix installed yet. Now it's asking me to continue setup. So continue? I tried to add wifi info but it looks like i'm still in managed mode. EDIT: Got past setup; even in managed mode; quickly hooked up the usb cable to delete the nasty update.bin.tmp.partial that was being created. Going to try to exit managed mode via If your kindle is registered to an Amazon account: Enter ;enter_demo into the Kindle search bar, then reboot your device. OK I really hope I didn't brick it. Jailbreak succeeded.
Here's where I'm at now: Photos and issue: https://photos.app.goo.gl/x1yzo35sLcmqrhqg6 I am in managed mode; but can't seem to get to the demo area. What to do? I do the two finger tap and slide from right to left but can't seem to enter it. Any ideas? Edit: Googling around if you hit ";demo" in the search bar it seems to bring up the screen so you can "resell" the device to yourself. Nice! Hitting ;log into search shows everything is great. WOOT! That was a bit scary at times... I hope to never have to do that again lol. Last edited by arooni; 12-16-2023 at 09:20 PM. |

For example here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=357438
Read everything carefully before doing anything. |

I'm a little worried since that package is soooo new. Is there a more tested method to keep me jailbroken?
such as creating a folder called "update.bin.tmp.partial" ? |

That folder methods is cery old and doesn’t work anymore.
What you want is new thing ![]() I do these commands from OTArename package by hand since 2018. No issues now as well. |

I ran the renameota binaries package. Then to be sure I ran it again and saw a "generating core dump" thing. Is that because I ran it twice ?
Anyway to verify the binaries are renamed and updates aren't allowed ? Is it safe to leave wifi on after running the renameota binaries ! Is this the consensus best way to keep my Kindle jailbroken? Last edited by arooni; 12-16-2023 at 11:55 PM. |
