Thanks for the help mergen3107!
what are the 2 hotfixes you are referring to? I only know of this: `Update_hotfix_languagebreak-en-US.bin` also i need to stop trying things before i ask you guys. in my attempt to get unstuck, i also did this: Code:
Device Options -> Reset i still can't seem to successfully complete the JB process. is that what you mean when you say `Factory reset`? Thanks for the .demo tip! my FW is: 5.15.1.1 and my device is PW5 |

This must be #1 rule in the OP for everyone
![]() 1) Hofix #1 - Marek's - this relates to the JB. Htofix #2 = NiLuJe's, this must be taken from NiLuJe's Snapshots thread - take whatever is the newest "JB Hotfix". 2) Yes, this reset is fine, if you can do it. It is the same as putting DO_FACTORY_RESTORE file (no extension!) into the Kindle storage and just rebooting. 3) You didn't install the current FW that supports JB again. Search how to find it here, for example: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...9&postcount=16 So after fcatory reset + PROPER FW (no more than 5.16.2.x!!!), do the JB again. Thanks so much mergen3107!
It worked! for anyone else, with similar issue: 1. I updated my firmwire to 5.16.2.1 2. followed the process (this time i didn't get the Pseudot, but i still selected chinese) 3. got all the nice messages 4. booted into the kindle, and then it got stuck and restarted by itself (?!) 5. i still copy pasted Marek's Hofix #1 -- and i got the mkk folder kindle looks like this: Code:
audible documents fonts libkh mkk rp voice my follow up question, which file(s) do i need from NiLuJe's Snapshots thread? do i just need this file? KUAL (coplate) | KUAL-5b5d1d2-20231104.tar.xz | 2023-Nov-03 13:37:00 | 73.5K | N/A | Upstream (my ultimate goal is to be able to read epubs in KOreader) |

Did you install NiLuJe’s JB Hotfix?
For KUAL, yes, you need coplate version - install via mrpi (which you need to “install” first - copy files from NiLuJe’s snapshots, MR Installer package). |

Then also don’t forget to install and enable renameOTAbin package to prevent updates.

Paperwhite 5 16.2.1.1 - Stuck in demo mode after JB
First: thank you for jailbreak!
![]() Device is "unregistered kindle" My problem: The first 19 steps of the steps detailed in the first post have been completed successfully, with the successful jailbreak message appearing at the top of the screen. After the Kindle is rebooted, starting in demo mode. After exiting from demo (with secret gesture): Settings is inactive ;uzb is not respond Connect to PC is not activate the USB mode ;demo is not responding ;enter_demo is not responding Stuck in Demo mode!? ![]() What is the solution? up1 Tipp from mergen3107: "when you need to copy files the second time (after Resell), copy all files except .demo . This way you won’t get stuck in demo again..." This is understandable, but how can I start a Factory Reset in this state? up2 After several tries, the ;demo command brought up the Demo Menu, from which I managed to launch the "Resell Device" option. The jailbreak is now successfully completed and I have now installed KUAL, MRPI, renameotabin and KOReader. Thank you, Regards, Gabor Last edited by sarigabor; 12-16-2023 at 07:20 AM. |

I found this post by spacequince very useful which explains in detail how to install Kual, Renameotabin and Koreader. Obviously you will have to install the latest versions of these files.

If I have 15.16.1 but want to move to latest allowed firmware of 15.16.2.1 (for new scribe notebook features in that release) should I do the jailbreak on 15.16.1 first then flash 15.16.2.1 when I'm done ?
Can I even install new firmware if I haven't gone thru the setup process yet via downloading the right bin file and putting it on the kindle ? I remember doing this Last edited by arooni; 12-16-2023 at 01:55 PM. |

@arooni,
For your case, it is easier to do JB first on 5.16.1 - because you won't have to accept mandatory firmware upgrade and then downgrade and all those hoops and loops. Then install hotfix from NiLuJe. Do not enable renameOTAbin yet (otherwise you won't be able to upgrade). Turn on Airplane mode. Upgrade to 5.16.2.0.1 normally. Then restart Kindle Scribe TWICE. Then reinstall hotfix from NiLuJe. Enable renameOTAbin. |
