As Hitch has informed us several times, if you contract shingles once that doesn't mean you won't get it again.
The prevalence of shingles is increasing in developed countries, if you're elderly get vaccinated with Shringrix (it's a 2 dose regime). I've had my first, my GP's nurse will call me when I'm due for the second. She called me after a few days after the first dose to ask what side effects I had experienced… she seemed disappointed when I said none. Maybe we need an 'Afflictions & Ailments" thread. BR |

Ibuprofen's thankfully keeping down the pain, hopefully won't wreak too much havoc on my gastrointestinal system. Acetaminophen/paracetamol I don't want to risk overusing it. Some decade back I had an ear infection that caused a series of 'suicide headaches' - I call them that because I would've been perfectly happy to pitch myself out a window to make the pain stop. Once it was so bad that I got slightly delirious and ended up wandering outside in the snow wearing just a nightgown. |

A lot of the problems are Canadawide. But in my province specifically, it's especially in shambles. Some weird decisions being made too - spending several million on a 'healthcare app' that's basically just a website in a wrapper telling you how long the ER waiting times are, lol.
Corruption is a definite thing in the Maritimes. New Brunswick might as well be called Irvingland. Nova Scotia's premier used to be an accountant for moving money offshore and has admitted to appointing 'personal friends' to oversee things. Last edited by ownedbycats; 12-10-2023 at 07:07 PM. |

I would, if I could afford it. It's 300€ per dose here, and no one gets it free. I just don't have that much disposable income in the near future.

It's decent but has been declining since it's getting overloaded. Not enough doctors, nurses, etc. Too many doctors are opting to specialize so the family doctor (general practioner) is becoming an endangered species.

Migraines those awful -- fortunately most of them are generally painless optical migraines. But it causes my vision to go all weird for hours and then I sometimes get nausea and stuff so it's still not fun.

Not much success getting an appointment, argh. On top of that some nasty-smelling green cheese came out of my ear and running a low-grade fever.

Today is time to test out my newly repaired (by me) custom orthotic shoe.
Due to a chronic foot/ ankle issue on my left foot I wear a customized New Balance shoe which has been widened slightly to accommodate an ankle support. I've had these shoes 2 to 3 years now and on a few occasions the sole of the shoe had become delaminated under the heel. Previously I'd gone back to the specialist company that both fit me and modify the shoes and they perform their magic to repair the shoe (at no charge). I'd been there two weeks ago and discovered this last weekend that it was happening again! I didn't feel like hearing up there again so searched a bit online for products that could be used and came across "Shoe Goo", an adhesive for shoe repairs. Reached out to Back2Feet (the folks who I see) and they said sure; that should work. So before going to bed last night I applied the product to the heel and left it dry over night. (Boy; it was weird walking up stairs with no ankle support). Today it seems ok and I suppose I should head out for a walk and test it out. Currently the plan is to get a new pair of shoes in the New Year which will at least provide me with a backup pair....
