File-Edit-View-Help, etc. toolbar in v7.1?

Does v7.1 retain the ability to show the old standby File-Edit-View-Help, etc. toolbar at the top of the UI?

Do you mean in the editor? Because there has never been such a toolbar in the main GUI, as far as I know. In the editor, yes, it's still there.

I was asking more in reference to the main GUI. I was quite sure that one existed (at least optionally) in previous iterations.

I think you mean The menubar. It can be enabled through Preferences -> Toolbars and Menus -> select The Menubar and click the right arrow button to add some actions to it. You can also add Favourites Menu and other plugins to the menubar.

The only items that can be added to "The menubar" out of the list requested by the OP are View and Help. Possibly since Edit was included in the list, we could add Edit Book, Edit Metadata & Edit Toc.

I tend to agree that the OP was thinking about the editor GUI not the main calibre GUI.

Edit: I went back through my collection of screenshots dating back to calibre 2.85.1 and none of the main GUIs has a File/Edit/View/whatever option.

If you set Preferences->Look and feel->Toolbar->Icon size to Off you get the functionality of the toolbar without the icon clutter.

And, the menu bar in the editor is mandatory, one can dispense with the tool bars but not with menubar.

Yep. I have been using Calibre since the version 0.something and I don't remember ever seeing such a toolbar. The optional menubar, yes, but as you said it can't have all the items the OP listed.

The OP should post a screenshot if possible, to show us what they mean.

Perhaps the OP is referring to the Apple bar on MacOS - IIRC it has File, Edit, View, Window and Help

It doesnt. The menubar on macos is the same menubar you get via Preferences->Toolbars & menus -> The main menubar
