I intended to use this jailbreak today.. Charged my kindle overnight, read the exploit files and then went to plug it in to my com.. oh wait, why is my kindle restarting. Muppet here forgot to turn off wi-fi.
Decided to see how much if any of the exploit was still working and sadly Amazon have completely broken it.
Going to download the latest .bin later and start digging through for other methods to hijack the browser for lipc access / execute sh files.

Sorry I forgot to mention, it is a Kindle Voyage running 5.13.6, the device on LanguageBreak is my Kindle Scribe running 5.16.2.0.1

I installed the bridge and all looks good. After installing the bridge and rebooting, I tested if I could install through UYK and it worked w/o any issues.

This has been pushed to the latest snapshots, as well as another important fix for Basic 4 owners (which I keep forgetting is a thing that exists, so they weren't really supported by the bridge, oops ;p).

Was anyone able to bypass FW update on a new Kindle Scribe?
People on 4PDA forum say that they didn’t find a way.
Tried to fill up space with stuff until space < 200 Mb.
Tried to limit / block internet connection. In both cases Kindle complains that it is unabe to download, and there is no Skip option.

This will only help when JB is successful.
What I am asking is a brand new out of the box Kindle Scribe.
It enforces updating it before user can even see main menu with books.

after following all steps, i'm not sure i have succeeded.

I can jailbreak and hotfix, I think, and then factory reset to unregistered "normal" (not managed) mode.

But, `;log` doesn't show anything. What does `;log` show for people with successful jailbreaks?

Also, should I be deleting the additional files such as `jb`, `.demo/boot.flag`, and the items in `documents/dictionaries/`? the README says to cleanup bin files, but i wasn't sure if this applied to other files as well.

The Scribe forces registration, but if it is done with wifi barely in range it is possible to enter airplane mode before the update download is complete.

I confirm, spent all day fighting brand new Scribe, but was able to install Koreader on it.

To get to the search "command line" on the main screen:

Set up my wifi router to limit connection speed to 500Kbps (I tried a range from 20 to 300Kbps, that did not work, Kindle considered connection broken)
Registered Scribe into my acount
Once it loaded to the main screen with search box, turned on Airplane mode.
Connected via USB and deleted partial update (somethign like update.bin.partial file). It got to 30MB max in all my tries, so plenty of time to stop it before it fully downloads (total size ~270-320MB)

What did not work:

blocking softwareupdate.amazon.com via pi-hole. Scribe complained about not being able to download an update without any option to skip it.
using some empty file to prevent scribe from checking internet connection (like INTERNET_NO_PROBE or something)
Trying to find a way to skip wifi connection or using wifi without internet access

Scribe was shipped with 15.6.0, initially it tried to update itself to 15.6.1(filename of the update Scribe started to download was update-3900690052-{some hash}.bin and even fully downloaded the update when I forgot to turn off it's access (started to download right after first wifi connection, even before registration).

I then manually updated it to 15.6.1 which I downloaded and then to 15.6.2 (probably the second update was not necessary, I did it only after a few messed up tries to JB on 15.6.1.)

My whole process was:

Update Scribe to 15.6.2
Register Scribe before it fully downloads the update
Delete partial update after turning on Airplane mode
Do LanguageBreak
Do LanguageBreak hotfix (after that I was out of managed mode, so I did not do post hotfix manipulation such as going into demo mode again and reselling)
Do NiLuJe's JailBreak-1.16.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.zip
Do kual-mrinstaller-1.7.N-r19303.tar.xz
Do KUAL-5b5d1d2-20231104.tar.xz (coplate)
Install Koreader

Did you do install and enable renameotabins? This will help you prevent OTA updates. Most of the JB/KUAL stuff on ≥ 5.16.3 is mega broken right now…

I did not do it just yet, I've seen a few messages here suggesting it might have been "fixed" by Amazon (meaning renameotabins does not actually prevent updates). At this point I just blocked all addresses that Scribe connected to in the first 24h in my network

Interesting, I had an impression that these people either didn’t do JB all the way, or did not active renameOTAbin after installing it.
