Calibre 7.0 Icon Missing

Hello,
I installed 7.0 and now the icon is missing from my start and desktop. How can I add it back? I am only able to pin it to the taskbar. Other than that I can't locate the app unless I try to read a book and the app will open.

Please advise.

Re run the installer and when you do click the advanced button and make sure the option to install the desktop icon is enabled.

When I go to reinstall the only options I have are "change, repair, remove". If I choose "change" all of the options have selected the "entire feature will be installed on local hard drive". Which one should I select?

thats fine just run the repair. and note that you can always create your own shortcut by going to c:\program files\calibre2 in windows explorer and right clicking the calibre.exe program and choosing the option to send to desktop or create a shortcut (I dont keep up with what that option is called these days)

Okay thank you. I did the repair but it did not cause the icon to appear on my desktop or start. I did as you suggested and located the app on my c drive and created a shortcut to the desktop.

But, why did the app disappear from the list of programs installed. I can only locate app if I look in program files.

I've seen the same thing. Right after updating to calibre 7, the icon disappeared in the start panel, and Calibre is not listed anymore in list of programs installed.
A bit scary at first

I just made a manual shortcut to calibre.exe and it's fine by me.

Windows 10 here, repair put it back in my program list and re-created the shortcut too

The good lord knows why, its some windows installer nonsense. The component used to build the MSI (Wix) was updated its possible there was some change in there that caused it. But given I cant replicate it and windows installer is an arcane beast, ...

If repair doesn't reinstate the shortcuts: uninstall, and click the Advanced button on the License agreement popup, click through the next popup, on the next one made sure the "Start menu shortcuts" and "Shortcut on desktop" are selected - i.e. don't have a X.

You won't lose settings or libraries if you uninstall.

Sounds like the icon went on a little hide-and-seek! Try this: search for "Calibre" in your computer's search bar, right-click the app, and then select "Pin to Start" or "Send to Desktop." That should bring the icon back where you can easily find it!

Windows 11 here. The icon on the taskbar went missing. I did restore it manually.

Yep, another "me too" post, but slightly different...

I have an icon shortcut on the desktop. (not the taskbar or start menu).
Normally, when I install an update, a second desktop icon is created, which I delete.

When I upgraded to v7, the second icon was created and then about a second later it disappeared. The original desktop icon still remains though.
