My parents might also have found an apartment.
Earlier this week they got a call from their realtor that he heard from a colleague an apartment in their preferred complex was available. When the realtor asked for more details it turned out to be one of the one bedroom apartments and my parents want a two bedroom apartment. But yesterday a two bedroom apartment came on the market on Funda. Their realtor is open on Saturday so they called and he's going to contact the selling realtor and make an appointment and get more details. It's a really nice apartment, the only drawback for my parents was that it's on the 6th floor. They had hoped on finding an apartment on a lower floor, so their view isn't just the sky. But they're (finally) willing to compromise. In other words it'll be an exiting week next week. Tomorrow we'll find out if we get our house in Gouda (I do hope so, it's the first of the houses I've truly fallen in love with) and hopefully my parents can go see the apartment. |

Fingers crossed for all of you! A sky view still sounds quite nice; clouds, birds, fancy rooftops, etc.

We missed out again. And the realtor had a different system than two others we bid on, which meant we didn't hear it until just before 2 pm today. So that was stressful.
My parents were able to make an appointment for a viewing at 2 pm today. Since my sister had taken the day off because we had two viewings (10 am and 4 pm) we all went to the apartment. It's really nice. My parents were afraid that on the 6th floor they wouldn't have much of a view, but they got a great view and because they're higher up they don't look out on the busy road. There were two other viewings for the apartment. Tomorrow my parents' realtor is setting things in motion to make an offer. The house my sister and I went to see this morning wasn't great. It's the basic 1970s lay-out (most of the houses we've seen so far have that lay-out, some are bigger, some smaller). It was a bit on the small side, plus it need a lot of work. It was right behind the second house we've seen, the one with the low countertops and where they are going to do extensive roadworks in the near future. The second house was, again, the typical 1970s lay-out. But this one was on the bigger side. It had big, new dormers in the attic, making it a really big space. The kitchen was new (we would want to change the tiles to make it a little less boring), as was the bathroom. It was weird, some things were really nicely done, but other things weren't. Every room had a different flooring (we've seen that so many times), a lot of walls needed new plastering (again, that's almost standard) and the walls and woodwork need (professional) painting. But overall it was a nice house in a quiet cull-de-sac (our realtor called it boring, but I like boring). It's only a 10 minute drive to my parents possible apartment (both a pro and a con), you can also easily get there by bike and the bus stops in from of the apartment building, that bus travel on to the city center of Utrecht. The problem is that my sister has a hard time moving on from the house in Gouda. But it's unfair to compare that house to any other house. It was just so unique. But she's going to sleep on it and we may put in an offer, still overbidding, but not too high. If we get it it's great, if not we move on. It was a stressful and tiring 2 days. So tonight I'm going to relax, no cross stitching and watch something that doesn't require much brain power. |

Oh, I'm sorry, Rumple. I was rooting for you! I know how your sister feels; I'm not always good about letting things go, either.

Thanks. I don't know if it's because I'm likely neurodivergent or because I'm just more used to dealing with disappointments. Sure it really sucks that we didn't get the house, we both loved it and we were already interior designing. But it is what it is and we need to move on. We'll probably end up in the typical 1970s house, so now we need to find one that both doesn't need a whole load of things to get it up to our standards and is in a nice location.
One of the reasons I'm cranky about it is because the house hunting is so tiring for me. Visiting three houses yesterday, going out to lunch with my sister and having drinks with my parents after their apartment was just too much for me. I was so tired, but my head was full and busy and made it hard to sleep. Tomorrow the next house is planned. I'm not feeling it. It's got a weird split-level lay-out, it's dark, and some weird architectural choices (photo 19: is that the door into the room?). |

We visited the Elzenlaan last week. It's a lovely house, but it needed more work than the photos suggest; all floors, walls needed the be stuccoed and the wall between the two attic bedrooms need to be removed. The bathroom in the attic isn't a bathroom but a laundry room in which they stuck an open shower, whilst there is no window or ventilation. We might have gone for it if it was lower in price. The last house in Woerden we overbid €50,000 and still didn't get it. Even if we got it we wouldn't have much money left to do the things we would want/need to do immediately. It seems my sister has moved on, I just got an email with a list of houses she likes. Last edited by Rumpelteazer; 11-15-2023 at 09:05 AM. |

And my parents just made an offer for the apartment (including the parking spot offered separately). Fingers crossed, for them it's more important to get a place than for my sister and I.

Did you guys look at this one? I'm getting confuddled about which you have and haven't. (I'd ignore that busy-busy bathroom. That does need some...something.) https://www.funda.nl/koop/woerden/hu...r-dreeslaan-7/ The yard is cute and useful.... Hitch |

This one came online yesterday and both me and my sister like it. It's on the smaller side, with a tiny back yard (no garden) and no toilet on the second floor. But it's fully renovated and it looks ready to move in (maybe paint the walls). |

The realtor office wasn't able to get an appointment for the house in Zeist, it was fully booked, but the realtor himself is going to make some phone calls to see if we can be fit in, I think he's feeling a bit guilty after not getting 3 houses. And on Tuesday we're going to Gouda for this house. It look like it'll be difficult to fit a 140cm wide bed in the attic, the it'll make a nice craft room and I could make a nice cross stitch corner up there. Otherwise I do like this house, though it is at the top end of our budget and we won't be able to overbid much. With a bit of luck my parents will hear today if they can buy the apartment, there's one other person bidding, so fingers crossed for that. The heirs are selling it and they already let it be known that for them it would be better if the house wasn't sold until next year (documents can be signed, but the actual payment won't be until January). But if my parents get it they can get access to get measurements to start getting new furniture, but they can't start painting or moving things in. |

My parents have made highest bid, so the apartment is theirs.
