Okay, I have an interesting problem. I’m trying to use the browser cache feature to download stories from fanfiction.net. With the current version (4.29.0), I can download an individual story just fine if I manually post the url, but if I try to get a list of stories from an author’s page, I get this message:

fanficfare.exceptions.HTTPErrorFFF: HTTP Error in FFF 'Page not found or expired in Browser Cache (see FFF setting browser_cache_age_limit)'(428)

If I go back to version 4.25.0 then it will properly list the urls from an author’s page. Nothing in my personal.ini changes from one version to the other. I have the proper browser cache set for Firefox, obviously since it works with 4.25.0. The problem starts with 4.26.0 For whatever reason, it just stops being able to get the individual story urls

I can confirm behavior, but I don't know why. It's been like 4 months since the last browser cache change.

I'll look into it, but you can work around it pretty trivially:

Copy paste the story list from browser into the 'Download from URLs' (or 'Make Anthology from URLs') dialog instead of using 'Get Story URLs from Web page'. The story URLs will be picked out.

Dependency update, perhaps? If any help, I can confirm it happens also in 6.99.3 (Notes beta).

Everywhere dateCreated entries are used when it's not going into one of Calibre's standard date type columns. So titlepage, if used in replace_metadata/etc, and custom columns, logpage, etc. But the hard-coded Calibre date/time columns use the raw date values.

So if you change dateCreated_format to a weird setting, you might break setting to date/time custom columns.

With as much of a PITA as ffnet has become, I'm finding it more and more difficult to care.

Especially since copy/paste of the HTML works better: You can use that to get an author's Favorites list instead of their own works without having to use m.ffnet.

I'm currently encountering an issue where I am no longer able to custom add local images to FFF stories by using a local file path URL.

It used to be where if I could drag the local image to a browser, copy the URL (starting with file:///) as the replacement to the "src" attribute, and then run "Update EPUB Always" and the image would be properly downloaded into the book. Now, the Calibre editor states that "This link points to a file is not present in the book" while failing to show the image in the preview and running the "Update EPUB Always" doesn't download the local image into the book anymore.

Calibre: 6.29, FanFicFare: 4.29.0

Edit: Never mind, it turns out the reason FFF wasn't properly downloading it was because the local file included "ffdl" in its name and that apparently triggers FFF to skip it.

I found drag'n'drop also works, but more awkward. I use it for ffnet story alerts page now that email is broke again.

I've installed the ffnet app on my phone just to get the notifications.

using fanficfare in calbire, I managed to capture the viewer ratings (votes) from literotica and succeded in putting them in a calibre custom column.

i somewhere found a snippet that suggested using 'hits' but i didn't succeed with:

The literotica adapter doesn't currently collect views or hits.

We can collect ratings from each chapter from the author's page and average them to populate averrating. We read that page for the chapter list.

As far as I know, views, comments and favorites are counted per chapter, not per story. That would require downloading each chapter to get, which we don't do for metadata collection.

So I don't think it's possible with this site.

I've figured out what changed: I explicitly set usecache=False during 'get urls from web page' to address an even more obscure corner case(#979).

I'm still considering the best solution. I could just reverse that change, but it may be better to instead ignore the usecache flag when use_browser_cache:true. Or maybe only when use_browser_cache_only:true.

usecache is really meant for BasicCache, not BrowserCache.

EDIT: OTOH, perhaps the correct answer is the work around given before: copy/paste or drag-n-drop. Fetching the author page with Get URLs from Web Page gives you their favorite list, not the author's stories. Because both are in the HTML and switched by javascript.

Would it be possible to disable the usecache for only AO3?

cache-control on fics is now max-age=0, private, must-revalidate so it's not really supported anyways, and AO3 doesn't block things (except during DDoSs) so cache isn't needed much anyways.

On finestories/scifistories (also SOL) there is a way to download up to three stories per day without having an account. Is there a way to use FFF to download them? And if so how?
Trying to do it without logged in needs User and PW.
