I had the Covid vaccine in 2021, when there were more serious variants of the virus around. With Omicron, I haven't bothered. I'm not in any risk group and not in contact with anyone who is at risk (my parents are both dead by now - not from Covid), so there's little point in vaccinating for me personally. I don't do flu vaccines either, for the same reason.
But I certainly would have the vaccine if I had a compromised immune system or just was old enough to be in the danger of serious damage from the disease. |

I must be vaccine immune, never had any side effects from any vaccine - including yellow fever, cholera (it's oral), tetanus, flu, covid etc.
Shingrix has just been put on the taxpayers dime for oldies like me, I'm in the queue at my GP. BR |

Shingrix is almost 300€ per dose here. Nope, can't afford it. And yeah, I've had chickenpox, so I'd have Shingrix if I could. Can't at that price, though.

Shingles can happen at any age, so I'm curious of the reasoning for a lot of jurisdictions only having public funding for the vaccine if you're 50+. Cost-savings, i guess -- even then, I'd expect treating it after the fact more expensive.

And some have no public funding for it at all, regardless of age.

Moving away from the vaccination....
I watched the Vancouver Canucks defeat the Ottawa Senators. Sadly after the game, I was listening to some of the post game ramblings suggesting that Vancouver defenceman Quinn Hughes should try for a trade to an Eastern team. Hughes is currently #4 in NHL scoring, leads in plus/minus, overall having a great start to the season. The talking heads out of Toronto were discussing the current possibilities for the James Norris award for the NHL's top defenceman. The 4 candidates they suggested were all from eastern division teams and Quinn Hughes did not even get a mention. Oddly, the 4 players mentioned are currently in the bottom half of the top 10 in scoring and plus/minus for defencemen. Even more humorous was the reference to the current Vancouver Canucks team as a "over-performing mediocre team in a mediocre division" Considering the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the Vancouver Canucks are #2 and #3 in the NHL's overall standings (#1 and #2 in the Pacific division), that was a bit of a stretch. Hmmm... 4 of the 8 Pacific division teams are in the NHL's top 10—that must be the definition of a mediocre division. Probably more than anyone here wants to know about the topic. |

I'll have to disagree. This is the perfect threat to vent and rant (it's in the name) and I will exercise my <deity of your choice> given right to do so.

Two days worth of trying to get my eye doctor, my insurance company, and the pharmacy to put a rush on getting a seemingly random "prior-authorization" fiasco straightened out so I could get my prescription filled. Only to find out that the cost of a 30-day supply of the generic version (which my doctor recommended) of the eyedrops in question was $13.65 (US) if I purchased it WITHOUT any help from my Insurance company! Why would my insurance kick up its heels over paying the $3.65 (after my $10 copay) for such a cheap and common medicine? They've never batted an eye at much more expensive prescriptions before.
Needless to say, I purchased the medicine myself and assured my insurance company that they could save their $3.65. Which is probably what they wanted me to do anyway. Hence the Prior Authorization runaround in the first place. What a bunch of carp. Last edited by DiapDealer; 11-10-2023 at 07:47 PM. |

Mirco-rant... webpages that are still loading, you go to click a link and as you do the whole page shifts down and you end up clicking the wrong thing. Sometimes you then get stuck on a page that blocks you from navigating back.
