Still trying to adjust to walking in total darkness ... sometimes I think my reflective vest makes me a target for cars, rather than a warning ... but it's fun to (literally) run into deer strolling through the neighborhood

I'd love some snow too. I wake up early and love walking in fresh snow whilst everyone else sleeps on. A wonderland all to myself, with that eerie quiet.

Deer, you can be as careful as can be, slow down to 5mph or 10mph and bygod, they will leap out in front of you and scare the living daylights outta you and themselves. Doesn't seem to matter HOW cautious you are around them and believe me, I'm obsessively careful when I see them. (When I was a teenager, I had driven past a group and the buck suddenly for no reason, changed his direction, leapt out into the road--this was AFTER I'd successfully and slowly driven past them, mind you--he must have leapt some ungodly distance!!!--to land on the hood of my VW bug. Traumatized me for, well, I guess, 50+ years. sigh. It was a convertible Bug--good thing he didn't land on the "roof.") Hitch |

Will it be third time lucky?
Today we went to see this house (street name literally translates as Under the Little Trees). It was a bit of a wildcard for us. But we loved it. It's a bit smaller than the other houses we've seen, but we can make it work. It's ready to move in. The walls will need to be painted, but that's to be expected. The only thing we want to do soon-ish is add an extra window in the attic bedroom. It's only a kilometer from the city center of Gouda. 86 meters from the front door is a big Lidl supermarket. If we get the house I might see if I can get a job there, nothing beats a work commute of going down the stairs, but living less than 100 meters from work is great, too. The street the house is on isn't very busy, but the road the Lidl is on is busier. We walked to a restaurant just before 5 pm and it was busy, but not too busy. When we walked back two hours later it was quiet. Also, the house is well insulated so you couldn't hear it from indoors and barely heard the traffic when in the garden. The deadline is at noon on Monday. I hope we get it, not just because we love it, but also the visiting of houses is time consuming and energy draining with all the other things going on at the moment. |

Back in the mid-80's, a friend's pickup truck I was riding in collided with a moose that decided running across the road was a good idea. The truck was a write-off, the moose shook it's head and wandered away, the three of us were a bit shook up. Thankfully we were all wearing our seatbelts which left some nasty bruises but probably saved us from serious injury.

Ooo, that house is lovely! Fingers crossed for you!
I love your cross stitch pieces too. I should pick up some teeny ones like that, to see whether my arthritis will permit me to do more, or not. Good luck! |

A pleasant surprise is that the person buying it can move in from February, all the other houses we've seen it was May/June to November next year. My sister's got advice by email from her buying realtor about what a good price for the house is. She's probably going for a bit higher (after our last two experiences), but she'll call him on Monday morning to discuss it further. So finger's crossed that this will be our future house ![]() |

You could wait on removing the sink — it could be useful. Washing up if you do painting…. Washing up if it’s your bedroom or a guest bedroom …

On the other side of the wall, on the landing/laundry room is a utility sink (is blocked by the shelves on the pictures). It's a bit of an overkill to have two sinks on that floor. The plan is to remove the one in the bedroom and replace the one on the landing for a nicer one with some storage underneath. And I need to create a space there for an electric kettle, because me, stairs and a hot beverage aren't a good combination.
