Nope, it didn't.
Post the pic and also post a pic of the code where the scene break occurs which should show us what is being used to create the space for the scene break. Ensure you include the entire previous and following paragraphs around the break.

Sorry, we don't want the original image. What we are asking for is that you open the ePub in an editor and then copy/paste the code around the scene break and the relevant code from the stylesheet.

In one ePub I was recently looking at, that would be the following:

Code:
<p class="para>“Sorry, sir.”</p>

  <p class="tristar">*__*__*</p>

  <p>There was a peremptory knock at the door.</p>

Code:
.tristar {
  font-size: 1.25em;
  font-weight: bold;
  padding-bottom: 0.5em;
  padding-top: 0.5em;
  text-align: center;
}

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I can't peer into the code of his book, but I can peer beyond the forum's stupid image proxy to extract the original image that wasn't working.

Okay, I downloaded Sigil and opened it up in that. BTW, this looks like a very nice program. I'm going to have to do some poking around with this.

Anyways, here is a code snippet:
chuckled dryly, and to Jim's ears it sounded like the sudden rattle of bones in a pit.</p>
<p class="tx1">“Thank you,” he heard himself saying. “Goodbye.”</p>
<p class="tx1">Mr. Nell was gone. The operator asked him to deposit sixty cents, and he put it in automatically. He turned, and stared into a horrid, squashed face plastered up against the glass, framed in two spread hands, the splayed fingers flattened white against the glass, as was the tip of the nose.</p>
<p class="tx1">It was Vinnie, grinning at him.</p>
<p class="tx1">Jim screamed.</p>
<br class="calibre1"/><br class="calibre1"/>
<p class="tx">Class again.</p>
<p class="tx1">Living with Lit was doing a composition, and most of them were bent sweatily over their papers, putting their thoughts grimly down on the page, as if chopping wood. All but three. Robert Lawson, sitting in Billy Stearns's seat, David Garcia in Kathy Slavin's, Vinnie Corey in Chip Osway's. They sat with their blank papers in front of them, watching him.</p>
<p class="tx1">A moment before the bell, Jim said softly, “I want to talk to you for a minute after class, Mr. Corey.”</p>
<p class="tx1">“Sure, Norm.”</p>
<p class="tx1">Lawson and Garcia tittered noisily, but the rest of the class did

And the actual text:
Mr. Nell was gone. The operator asked him to deposit sixty cents, and he put it in automatically. He turned, and stared into a horrid, squashed face plastered up against the glass, framed in two spread hands, the splayed fingers flattened white against the glass, as was the tip of the nose.

It was Vinnie, grinning at him.

Jim screamed.

Class again.

Living with Lit was doing a composition, and most of them were bent sweatily over their papers, putting their thoughts grimly down on the page, as if chopping wo

The break between Jim screamed and Class again is quite large on my Kobo. Any ideas on how I can fix those scene breaks?

Well, everyone, I guess this is a moot point now. I pulled this into Sigil and it gave some message about not being formatted correctly and asked if I wanted to automatically fix it. I clicked yes, then removed the file from my ereader and added it back in. Now it looks great!!! The scene break is a single blank line between the two scenes instead of 4. One thing to note is the old file was kepub and the new is epub. I've noticed that I like the epub format better most of the time, so I've switched to loading epub instead of kepub recently. Not sure if the format is the difference or if Sigil fixed something or not.

<br class="calibre1"/><br class="calibre1"/>

You would need to check what "calibre1" is in the stylesheet.css file, but using a <br/> as a CR is not correct as it is meant to be used inline, eg <p>first line<br/>second line</p> not as a paragraph level tag.

I guess Sigil picked up on this and fixed it automatically.

It's invalid code. A <br> cannot be on it's own.

It’s kind of baffling that a simple click with free software can fix an epub that I bought. I don’t get it, why can’t a publisher test these things before they release them?

They're too cheap to do so when most customers won't bother to complain about it.

It's still KePub. But it can be read with RMSDK. You should download it as an ePub and it won't be as large because of all the KePub code.

KePub is ePub with extra code. Lots of extra code.

Given that an ePub is stored in a .zip archive container, the added span's actually add very little to the file size.
