Wouldn't surprise me, but they keep telling me my computer doesn't meet the specs.

Not much help but I updated my Windows 10 Edu VM and Thunderbird. When I ran Thunderbird after the update, it had no issues downloading around 400 messages ( I haven't run Thunderbird on the VM for a month or so). Thunderbird version is 115.4.1 (64-bit).

This might help: right-click the inbox, Properties, Repair Folder.

If you don't have auto-compact on, the message indexes can get kind of bloated and messed up if you forget to compact every so often. Personally I use Xpunge instead of auto-compact, but its a matter of preference.

Me neither. Both my laptops are eligible, but I'll stay on Windows 10 as long as possible. I tried Windows 11 a year ago or so, and it lacked several features important to me. Perhaps it has improved since, but I'm not going to risk it.

OTOH, I upgraded to Windows 10 as soon as it was offered in 2015. It was better than Windows 8.1 I previously used. But Windows 11 is worse than Windows 10.

Actually, that's wrong. I have Windows 11 on my laptop and it is not worse then Windows 10. I also have Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 2 and my old desktop because they don't qualify for Windows 11 and I am fine with Windows 10 on them. Someday I do need to replace that old desktop and get a 2-in-1 to replace my Surface.

I got a forced update to 115 and it's not as bad as I've read But it's not as good as it was. Thing is, you do get used to it.

Somehow it makes me feel better that I'm not alone in disliking some of the changes to Thunderbird's UI. To me, most of them have the feel of changes made for the sake of changes.

Yeah, I really disliked it at first, but now that I'm used to it I will admit that I find it ever so slightly easier to use the "Get Messages" icon and "New Message" box. It's very minor, and not everyone need agree with me.

Oh, by the way. I started up the computer, opened Thunderbird, and all messages downloaded without a hitch. Whatever happened between last night and tonight, I didn't do it.

It was certainly worse when I tried it last year.
