I'm not poo-pooing recipes with weights (or billions with 12 zeros) I'm just saying that expecting people to use (or not use) terminology that goes against everything they've ever learned in school is a bit pointless. Embrace the differences and translate accordingly when encountering them. *shrug* |

Also, like it or not, the US dollar is pretty much the de facto standard for currency in the world. If you were buying drugs in southeast Asia to transport to Europe and sell, you still used US dollars. |

Looking at your comment about adding more flour to get the right consistency, I would have to ask how much experience it took to know what that "desired consistency" was. Last edited by DNSB; 10-24-2023 at 02:58 PM. |

And you would be wrong. Bread, cookies, the occasional cake--you name it. I do it.

I prepare rice in such small quantities that I use weight for both the rice and the water. (Not claiming anyone else should do so.)

No, it wasn't a quote from this thread, or even mobile read. It was a quote from elsewhere and it would have been wrong to translate it. Are you trying to prove I'm inconsistent? Sometimes I am, we all make mistakes, but it's a quote. I can't say I've never in my own comments loosely said or written "billions" in the sense of unknown very many, but this was a quote. |

And how many people know about the different versions of million/billion. And how many care?
We’re all reasonably intelligent in this forum and if looking at a quote from elsewhere will look it up if we want to. Last edited by Martinoptic; 10-25-2023 at 07:11 AM. |

My mother taught me to put however much rice I wanted in a pan and cover it with water so that the water came up to the top of my fingernail above the rice, cover the pan with a cloth, and boil until no water left. One had about 15 mins before the pan needed looking at.EDIT: I always used Basmati. |
