Thanks.
Lots of people were very upset, considering it "gratuitous," to the point where the producers and even Reeves felt compelled to explain, in some detail the "why" of the scene. They felt (shortening it as much as I can) that without that scene, Wick's actions were simply sociopathic and without any real justification--I mean, going on a spree like that, for a car???? According to them, they tried it with and without Daisy (the puppy) a dozen times and finally felt that without Daisy, it didn't work. The whole movie, I mean. YMMV, of course.

Yeah, I myself wasn't too happy with that scene. I was upset with Costner and his "shoot the wolf" scene in DWW, too. Sometimes, it's just gratuitous emotion-jerking (DWW, doesn't drive plot, just upsets the audience); sometimes, like with JW, you can at least understand what made them think that they had to use it.

My sister and I just finished the second season of Foundation, we really enjoyed it.

My sister is interest in The Continental, but she's never seen a John Wick movie, so we just started the first one (just got past the puppy scene).

Let us all know if you like The Continental. I'm ambivalent about trying it, considering how abysmal (bummer!) I found JWIV.

The first JW is done. She liked it. I'm easily entertained and don't mind the repetitiveness of the JW series. It's not like I'm going in and expect sparkling dialogue. You know what to expect with this series, which is nice sometimes.

The Continental is three episodes, the last one is released next Friday. So we might wait until then so we can binge. It'll give us a chance to space out the movies a bit.

I know exactly what you mean about waiting and watching them all. Vis-a-vis JW I liked the first three, although the 2nd half of the third one kinda draggggggged on a bit in the endless fights. But the fourth just...left me cold, I guess.

My sister and I started with Poker Face yesterday. It's a mystery series by the creator of Knives Out, staring Natasha Lyonne and Benjamin Bratt.

It's great fun. My sister described it as the redneck version of Midsomer Murders. Which is pretty accurate. The murder in episode 4 is very similar to a murder in one of the episodes of MSM.

I liked it too! Natasha Lyonne is a tonic.

I'd recommend "Russian Doll" also starring Natasha if you haven't already seen it.

We finished Poker Face and really liked it. Tonight we watched the last episode of The Continental. I enjoyed it, though it's very different than John Wick.

We're now watching The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Which is even worse than I remember. A lot of up and coming actors from that time, who didn't make it to the big league.

The studio spent all the money to get Sean Connery ... and had to fill all the other roles with has beens or no names.

Howdy:

Well, I liked this. Now...granted, I have a somewhat vested interest in it, as I live in AZ and the Nation is not far from us, relatively speaking. And of course, anybody that came up reading Tony Hillerman could hardly stay away from it, I should think. But I thought that overall, except for a few soapy bits, they did a good job. Three episodes and worth viewing.

We've been trying to rewatch Jonathan Creek and ...I just can't. I loved Alan Davies; loved the show's conceit and concept, (mostly) but every single time that woman opens her mouth, I wanted to hit her. I mean, seriously, punch her in the face (Caroline Quentin, the co-star).

That character (I'm assuming that it's the character and she's not that person) is simply repugnant and repulsive. There isn't a single redeeming quality about her. Between shovelling food in her face non-stop, lying, scheming and on and on and on...I don't know how the producers of the show expected anyone to keep watching. WHY? I realize, I do, that UK and US humor are very different but...I found nothing remotely funny about her. The only way we've made it through any episodes is by the plentiful and liberal use of the fast-forward button. Of course, with her screen time, means we lose about 40% of the plot elements.

I'm thinking, hey, it's been a quarter-century. Maybe this is a show that they could revive (WITHOUT HER) and who knows? If something as silly as Hawaii 5-0 or Magnum or whatever can make it, why not this? (I think that they did some sort of homage-y thing, in the mid 2015's or thereabouts but I could be wrong.) If they do, I just hope they don't bring back her, or some obnoxious daughter character, etc. (Yes, yes, I'm looking at YOU, Justified, City Primeval, utterly also ruined!!!)

Yabbut, aren't those soapy people villains? The bad people, the ones that the soap fans like to root against?

Why on earth did they try to make her the co-star/heroine/sidekick? And make her SOOO repugnant? How the hell did the show run for three years that way? Granted, it's not like USA-TV years of old, with 20-24 episodes per; it's just 6 epis per season but still. It's still about 18 more hours or so of her than I could stand.

[SMH]. I admit it, maybe this is what old age really is about--I don't get it. And this was happening when I was NOT old, too. I mean I was not even really middle-aged then. Urk. Oh, well.

I'm not sure if when it appears to be 80%+ of the cast, you can call them villains anymore. I expect real evil from villains not petty nastiness. Most of the "evil" was on the level of shoplifting a candy bar from a corner store or watching a tank of crabs crawling over each other to get to the top.

When I was off with a nasty flu a while back and more or less forced to watch, I found myself thinking of what Mark Twain said: "The test of any good fiction is that you should care something for the characters; the good to succeed, the bad to fail. The trouble with most fiction is that you want them all to land in hell, together, as quickly as possible."

LOL, it's funny you mention that. I said the exact same thing to Mr. H a few nights--on a similar topic/show. Same reason; repugnant lead characters.

When the only reason you ever put a show on, are the sidekicks, you know that show has real problems.

At least it's much cheaper to throw a book or an ereader across the room compared to giving your TV that treatment. As that quote which appears with multiple attributions says: "Not a book to be lightly thrown aside. Should be thrown with great force."
