Well ... I know how to install those connections as well (not a professional in those areas though) - still doesnt help if there is no provider available in a given area or if said providers do not connect your ends

Yeah, thats the root of this problem. No little secret handshake (via phone) to tell at the support line? Something like "Say squaddlediddledidoo at the phone and you will get VIP service"?

Oh well, my line is working ATM (had to change some of those nasty little cables, but there it is *whooping yes*) and I dont intend to change this.

no, the only advantage we have is posessing the correct tools to open the equipment and work backwards to ascertain that the dial tone, or circuit tone, or whatever is actually sitting outside your house/building/whatever.
