On paperback I just finished Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk, quirky book, great writing. Best thing I've read in the last while was Small Worlds by Caleb Azumah Nelson, beautifully written, has real energy |

Enjoyable but not as good as other ones. The beginning was very intriguing, but the reveal came too soon. Also, it seemed this installment was shorter than usual; less than 200 e-book pages. Rated C [3 stars]. Next, Owlflight by Mercedes Lackey. |

Just finished Amy Schneider's In the Form of a Question, her story of her transition and her Jeopardy run as the most successful woman Jeopardy contestant, ever, and second only to Ken Jennings amongst all contestants. An interesting book, and an interesting person. It was interesting to read her perspective as someone who didn't realize she was a woman until 30 or so. There's some sections I just skimmed over, but others I very much enjoyed. Overall, 4 stars. |

During the pandemic, I participated in A Public Space's Tolstoy Together, which was a giant read-along of War and Peace during the early days of the lockdown. APS has continued the tradition with many books, and I am hopping back in with the read-along of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. If anyone else is interested, you can find more info ->HERE<- |

I'm still reading Follet's book The Armor of Light. I'm enjoying it as it seems to take place entirely in the fictional town of Kingbridge as opposed to Column of Fire which took place as much in France as Kingsbridge. The Cathedral is no longer center stage, but the clothing industry is and it's a bit typical bad guys in power abusing those less fortunate. My next reads I just bought today on Amazon deals of the day. The Night Watchman by Erdrich and Sea of Tranquility by by Mandel. Sci-fi isn't my normal go to but I enjoyed Mandel's Station Eleven so I thought I'd give this a whirl. Last edited by drofgnal; 10-10-2023 at 04:11 AM. |

Started Deep Wheel Orcadia by Harry Josephine Giles, a Arthur C Clarke award winner. A short novel, but I DNF; I couldn't get into the style and had problems following the story.

I recently finished two books published this year: Daughter of the Dragon, Yunte Huang's biography of Anna May Wong, and the second of Claire North's Penelope trilogy, The House of Odysseus, both excellent. In regard to the latter, I'll add that while I love the concept of feminist retellings of ancient Greek myth and legend, I end up jettisoning most of them. These were the first two books published this year that I enjoyed. |

I finished this recently. I'd been dipping into it for months. The petty concerns of pre-2016 seem like a lost golden age, now. You think David Cameron is bad? It's entertaining enough, though.

Meanwhile, reading a new Urban Fantasy series. Not sure if it will last, but this first one definitely has me engrossed. Sophie and the Odd Ones by Gwen DeMarco. | |

I've just finished re-reading Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence, now I'm re-reading Eon by Greg Bear. Mostly I'm killing time, waiting for the next book in the Murderbot Diaries. |

Wow... I have literally just picked this up to start reading. I've opened the page to Prolog: Four beginnings, and thought I would check this forum first before settling down to read. I've had this book and Eternity for years and years, but never read them. Over the last week I have read Legacy and The Way of All Ghosts. Didn't really enjoy them, so hoping Eon and Eternity shift into a different gear for me. Last edited by Karellen; 10-10-2023 at 06:39 PM. Reason: type-o |

In ePub (sent to my Kindle and auto-converted as Amazon is wont to do), recently finished Dereliction of Duty by H. R. McMaster, the documented history of how the US became involved in Vietnam. You will get angry...very angry.
