Is it just me or is the Nav bar on the bottom of the screen smaller? I feel like it shrank some on my Scribe after the most recent update.

That's going to take an update to how Calibre sideloads on the Scribe to fix. There has been some discussion about a way to do it but Kovid can't test directly because he doesn't have a Scribe in hand.

I have only updated one of my devices so far, but a feature that was reported 2-3 months ago has shown up: you can now display Collections in List mode.

Not sure what is going on but both my Paperwhite SE and Scribe yield Update Error 'An invalid update file has been loaded on your device'.

I re-downloaded and made another attempt, with the same results.

Two other Kindles updated, and now have this amazing new feature.

Yes, I'm trying to figure it out, but haven't done any calibre development previously. Have not worked on any PyQt apps either. I'm making some progress understanding the code but it is slow going. And I have other things to take care of.

Or we could just chip in and send Kovid a Scribe...

If not, I don't see how the return of a feature from over 10 years ago that was taken away for some reason can be new.

What's next, the amazing new back button? The amazing new thumbnailless list mode with an amazing 10 books per 6" screen?

I would say more ironic than sarcastic.

At any rate, it will be a welcome change for some, as small a change as it is.

For the record I would totally support text only list view. With the new layout it would just be another option in addition to Grid and List.

This is nice. Sprt of.
If only the grid display on Kindles also has mini thumbnails of the books inside, like how they look on the apps.
Looking at big blank rectangles doesn't look better to me.

Some of my side loaded books have disappeared. Especially in a certain collection. Has anyone else noticed this?

I still have not been able to manually update my Scribe or Paperwhite (11th gen), but they nevertheless have the 'slightly improved' Sort/View options. So that change is independent of this update.

The feature wasn't "taken away". It's a side effect of correcting a reported security flaw. Don't attribute malice to bugs from fixing other bugs. It happens all of the time in the entire software industry.

I this case it was the major UI redesign to make it more like the Kindle apps (removal of Back, introduction of Filters etc.). Inevitably some use cases were left behind, even as new ones are now supported.

Quite often, an update will trigger re-indexing all of the content on the device. That will drain the battery disproportionately if you have a lot of content to index.
