I believe they shouldn't immediately fix them, they should give it a month or so until every error is found and then update the resellers so that people can re-download a perfect copy. But essentially I agree, they should fix em.

The sourcebooks for the roleplaying game shadowrun are released as pdf. Whenever a new print-release is done (or critical errors are corrected) a new pdf-release is published - and you are entitled to re-download your copy of the (corrected) pdf.
It works rather well Something similar should be done by Harper-Collins.

Fictionwise have an excellent support ; a month ago I wrote an email complaining about the publisher of a book I bought at FW, and which was riddled with OCR errors. I had taken screenshots on my iPhone (using Stanza) of all the pages in error, sent them to Fictionwise, and they :

1. offered to refund (which I declined)
2. harrassed the publisher until it corrected the book
3. emailed me that I could download a revised edition

Unfortunately, as the eBook bubble grows, publishers want to be part of it but not invest a kopek in proof-reading or technology investment...

At least, by sticking to a bookseller company with good support, problems can be solved ...

The problem is you can't just proofread the books you WANT to read... you have to proofread all that other junk, too.

And with deadlines... Reading evey word with a time limit in a novel you don't apreciate... Errors might appear.

The more proofreaders, the higher possibility of assigning books to those who WANT to read them

People who are keen to get into proofreading might like to start by properly proofing some of the books we have right here at MR. Goodness knows, most of them need it.

I didnt know that there was a section for german eBooks - dont think proofreading english books would be too valuable

Sorry to pick on you in particular, Nate, but the main point of my post was to get people to bombard HarperCollins with similar emails to the one I'm going to send. They are more likely to fix things if they get the feedback.
