As you have several eink Kindles, you won't need the desktop app at all to strip the DRM; you can use the Download & Transfer option to do that. Of course, if you don't want to strip the DRM, that's your choice.

As to duplicates, I'd have a pile of them if I didn't use Calibre. I could never remember what I've already bought and what not, and as I buy from several different stores, it would take a lot of time to check every one of them every time I want to buy something.

It's calibre, not caliber. I say this because getting it wrong means a failed search.

Sorry but the workarounds for removing DRM from Amazon purchases are still working including being able to import KFX from your desktop app. If you were stripping DRM from KU loans, I have no sympathy for you.

As for getting duplicates, to me, that is a PEBKAC error.

For me managing my 13,000+ ebooks, calibre is an invaluable tool. And just by the way, calibre is the correct spelling.

In most cases "The latest version of the Kindle app is required" actually means "The latest and greatest DRM is required." You may need to wait for the rollout of the next release of Kindle for PC with new and improved DRM.
