On the same topic of that 'Real Animal Heroes' book mentioned earlier:

One of the stories piqued my interest enough to Google for more information. While the book says it took place in 1937, the only evidence I found of it was a newspaper... published in 1878. Which makes me question the validity of pretty much all the book (except a few other stories I've also read from other places).

Especially since the author often go outside known experience. Okay, the person being rescued is unconscious, and there's no witnesses, so how do we know what exactly happened?

after a car crash a dog apparently pulled his master free from a underwater car... except the master had "been killed instantly in the crash." And then the dog immediately died after doing that. Okay then.

Does skimming threw a book still considered reading? Sometimes a book is boring or overly wordy so I rush threw parts or rush threw to the ending.

It's up to you. Skimming through a book is not what I would consider reading.

One friend of mine will read the first chapter and last chapter of a book before deciding whether they want to read it. They mostly read mysteries and claim that they enjoy the mystery more that way since they can watch for the clues as to the identity of the culprit without being thrown off track by red herrings.

I just did a DNF on "This Side of Paradise".
I think that I've tried to read this before a time or two.
In my eyes, a protagonist should be likable or interesting or something.
I tried skimming through but it wasn't worth the effort.
I just went online and got the ending. Big deal.

I skim some books. Especially those books that have a very predictable HEA. An example of a book and its series that I did not finish is the Divergent series. I barely finished the first book, and cared nothing for the characters. The Maze Runner was the same. Divergent especially seemed so formulaic and uninteresting.

There have been too many series where I have read the first book or two and then decided not to finish the series since they gave me that déjà lu feeling. There is way too much bandwagon jumping by indie and trad published authors.
