Another thing that's a real bother is low-res images that we are supposed to be able to read.

Also, images of text that could have been done as real text.

The internet archive copy here seems to have a decent resolution cover. I don't know if you can somehow extract it.

Then Right Click and Save

In general on a website: Right Click > View Page Info > Media, scroll till you find image and then Save As or copy link.

Disable Javascript if right click is blocked.

If all else fails, then use a 4K monitor and Alt PrtSc.

Yeah, I extracted this out of the index page for this book.
There was the parameter 200 that I switched to 500.
I'm not sure what size the native is or how to access it directly.

Search the Internet Plugin has a cover search by size. Problem with it is some images have a large mask that fakes it out. Just cherry pick.

And sometimes images are resized and look awful.

I read it. But you mentioned it for images that are faking being larger then they really are.

With the new Kobo Metadata, we now have one more possible source for covers. I found the resizing of Kobo Books to be a problem.

It was a caution that size may not be a good measure.
And the topic mentions OLD covers. Kobo (and others) who retails ebooks has current covers.

When I used Calibre to document my paperback library (c.2010), I had to place the book on a flatbed scanner almost 50% of the time to get that version of the cover (or any cover).

Yeah. If the book is out-of-print, Kobo won't have any covers.

I used to scan book covers myself, but then my cheap-ass scanner screwed up and started spewing rainbow lines on everything. Then it broke entirely. Now I'm in a smaller apartment and there's no room for a scanner.

I've taken photos of the covers of a couple of my paper books, with my phone camera. Needs a good light and some post-processing, but they turned out quite ok.

I enjoy searching those out. Especially when it is a reissue with a lackluster cover. eBay can be a good source of high quality scans.

What I do is view the cover to see if it looks good before using it.
