Can you still upload fonts to the Fonts folder after this update?

That changed in the middle of the run of Windows 7, so somebody would have to be using an OS that hasn't been patched in 10 years or more.

Sometimes they are daft, other times they can't update or upgrade, sometimes because they have no Internet. NT 3.1: 1993 Windows 3.0 1990, supported till 2001, even though it was junk compared to Win 3.1 or NT. Windows 3.11 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11: 1993 Windows 3.1x was stiil in use at least in 2016 commercially. (Not just Windows Embedded). Windows 7 (Really NT 5.4 or 6.0 or something) 2009 People in the real world often don't upgrade if stuff seems to be working. Plenty of cars are older than 2009 and subject to greater wear and tear. I knew at least one person still using Win98 and a Kindle PW2 in 2021. He didn't figure out home WiFi for a long time so registered it and downloaded books in a local chain store. You can't make people update or upgrade. Last edited by Quoth; 09-05-2023 at 01:13 PM.

Despite having updated to the latest version, I continue to have the same problem: when I send an ePub file to my Kindle (maybe even with other files, but I couldn't try), I no longer have the "band" with NEW written (to indicate the label on the cover), but, in its place, I have the percentage of 0%. Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there anything that can be done? Thank you!

It reminded me that I sometimes miss having a way to classify books by open and unopened books. - percentage on cover thumbnail: book open/reading - "New" on cover thumbnail: unopened book/to read Having to create collections to manage this is not very practical. |

Thank you! This thing started with version 5.16.2, unfortunately. Amazon should be warned about this and correct the problem, because, at least for me, it's really annoying.

But in other cases, the percentage shown on Library/Home is different than what's shown when reading the book. These used to match and now they do not always match. I have theory about how the math is getting bungled but haven't sat down and worked out the details. In theory, percentage is just absolute position in the book, just like a physical bookmark in a physical book might be expressed in terms of percentage of pages. As such it is an imperfect proxy for reading progress, since readable content is some subset of the total content. But 'readable content' is not well defined either (are end notes, indexes, preview of next book in series in or out?). So there is no perfect metric for reading progress. Publishers do set start and end of readable content but it is not done consistently enough to be useful. And personal documents do not have this. At least percentage can be applied consistently to all content. I think Amazon could probably machine learn what the readable content is (based on reading statistics or just analyzing content) and then use that for Store content. The highest firmware version on any of my kindles is 5.12.4, but, at least up to and including that, % complete has been the position in the raw HTML of the book, with no regard to "front matter" etc. The % number has been subject to weird rounding and truncation. Strangest of all, 1% was the lowest displayed for any opened book, even if 0.1% was more like it.

I was elaborating on your first paragraph and had not read the rest closely enough to notice that you also wrote about something I just recently noticed, the difference between in book percentage and library view percentage. I think in book is rounded up when appropriate and library view is truncated. amazon's mathematics is weird and inconsistent throughout, including for battery state of charge. |

But I'm coming around to the view that something might have changed (maybe not just on Kindle). On Kindle, I never see 0% anywhere, in Library or in book, it is always at least 1%. Also true with Kindle for iOS. So it seems that 1% means 'within first percent' and not 'one percent complete'. Kindle for Android will show 0% in the book (for first few pages) but then no percentage is shown in Library. But now I'm going to try to put my attention on something at least a little bit more important.
